Hey guys - i have a 86 K5 Blazer that all stock motor wise. I am have acceleration problems. It bogs down while in gear but not when in nuetral or park. It will rev right up with in P or N.

I assume it needs a new carb - i still have the original on it.

My question is does any know exactly which replacement will work?

It's a 305 w/ a Rochester Quadrajet 4bl w/ electric choke.

I bought a Edelbrock 1406 today but it wouldnt fit.

Can anyone with experience steer me in the right direction? The specific link to the carb would be greatly appreciated!!

Ive seen one ranging from $250 to $500 - the remanufactures seem to the most expensive for some reason....?

Thanks!

just use a carb adapter/spacer plate for the edelbrock. or better yet if passing emmisions testing isnt a problem get a dual plane edelbrock performer rpm intake.

or just go to Napa or Autozone, I'm fairly sure they would have a re-man quadrajet for ya, last i checked they were priced pretty decent around here.

i've tried napa, autozone, o'rielly, pep boys etc etc for a reman and no one had one. Plus they run about $500. Couldnt i just have the original rebuilt for a 100 bucks or so?

Most likely your accelerator pump isn't shooting. I'll bet if you ease into it, it doesn't bog.

Stay away from the speadbore/squarebore adapters. They screw up the mixture distribution something awful. If you absolutely have to use one, make it a 4-hole.

You can just pull the EGR can and block it off. You'll have to readjust the timing a bit to keep it from knocking.

The Edelbrock is a great choice. Should run right out of the box, but you'll need a square bore manifold for it.

Here's a link to a rebuilt QJ from Summit:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-210216/ , but since you've already got the Edelbrock I'd go ahead and get a Performer manifold for it. That QJ is really too big for a 305. It's a testament to the versatility of the QJ that it works at all, but the Edelbrock will give you almost telepathic throttle response.

Get edelbrocks 4 hole adaptor and run thier carb. Thay work great and are easy to tune. If you get it on let me know and i'll get you the specs to set it up to make it run great. I spent about 2 months trial and error setting mine up to get it right. The calibration kits work ok but I found that they lack ideal tuning so you end up buying extra metering rods.
Was your factory carb computer controlled?

Do you have a feedback carb setup? I would recommend staying with the Quadrajet, and get in touch with GreasDog here on the forums, and he knows one of the best rebuilders around.

if you don't have emissions remove the egr and throw it away and use the edlbrock, you'kk need a spreadbore to squarebore plate to do it though. I also think edelbrocks makes an egr relocation kit as well.
