View Full Version : Leveling a NBS Sierra....

So I'm new here and have searched non-stop for about a week now trying to find a 03-06 Sierra leveled on some nice 20/22s w/ DECENT tread, no rubber bands.
I can't seem to find ANYTHING! I've been reading I can take out the 2" blocks in the back, and/or add new keys up front and just keep them set pretty low to have the truck leved. Yet still no pics of Sierras.....
What will look best?? What will ride best?? Currently floor-to-fender is 35 3/4 in the front and 37 5/8 in the rear.
Any help is MUCH appreciated!

A guy named ilikedirt has a truck that might be what you're looking for. I'm not 100% sure though.

If you want a CLEAN look for a 4wd its simple, buy any brand of 2" drop shackles, take out the factory block, and buy some 2" drop hangers. That is 6" lower than a stock 4x4 then you can find you some used 2500HD keys and they will lower the front. Also your stock keys will level up the front end of an HD so maybe you can find a buddy and do a nice trade in a day! That will give you about a 4/6 drop from stock.

But I don't want the front ANY lower than it already is...... I want to either lower the back to be level with the front, or a way to raise the front that 1 7/8 to be level with the back without riding like crap....

Easiest way to level is to crank the keys in the front, just be sured to get it aligned after. Wish I could help on findin one leveled on 20 or 22s but no one comes to mind off the top of my head. I'm more a little wheel with big tire kinda guy.

OK, but can I get 2 full inches out of the keys without making it ride like crap or making parts on the IFS wear out quicker?

I cranked my 99 1 3/4 inch at about 90k, ran it 130k with no ill affect. Kept it aligned and never had problem. It didnt ride like a caddy but at the same time it didnt ride like a ford.

Not to ask a dumb question but do the silverado ss have the 2" blocks in the rear? They pull of 20s stock well.

I don't think the SS has blocks.

The SS sat pretty level from the factory so id say no on the blocks. If you want a near free way just pull your blocks for now and then get you some $50 shackles from your nearest oreillys or autozone when you get the money then you can decrank the front end a little and it would look good. Then you can get some nices 22s you like and run some 305/40/22s and be set!

Do you have a link to what shackles would be BEST? Money's not a problem for this project, I just want it done right. :D

Now that I couldnt tell you. Im just running a flip kit. Ask the guys in the regular street section they'll know what kinda shackles have the best bushings. Thats really all that matters with a shackle is the bushing.

I've got ground force shackles from summit, they look like quality parts and are working well so far.

OK, so I get some shackles and just take out the blocks and replace them with the shackles?

No you just pull the blocks out and bolt the axle back on then swap out your stock shackles with the drop shackles

Ahhhh I see.
Now why do I need to replace the factory ones after I take out the blocks? Be easy I'm new. :D

So last night I took the rear blocks out and WALLA!!! A much better looking truck!
Is an alignment required at this point? Suggested?? Or just a waste of money?

Not required, but if its been awhile since your last one the its always a good idea.

I just bought the truck <1 month ago, and they aligned it, so I think I'll be good. Sweet!

Yeah you should be fine. When I cranked the tbars on my 99 and 04 I waited almost 2 months before gettin em aligned. Took the 04 to a buddy and did the 99 myself when I had it and did alignments, and both were perfect.

If you wanted to go another 1 1/2" or more most drop shackels really dont lower it 2" and you can decrank the front end level with the shackels. You could also get 2" lowering leaf springs for a true 2", but you will loose some load capacity

i have a 4x4 NBS Sierra with 20's and some terra grapplers. I took the 2" blocks out the back to level it. My only problem now is I will need to install some helper bags when towing my boat. Sorry don't have any pics since I took the blocks out.

Thats actually very clean I like it alot. Honestly Id try to get some HD keys and take the blocks off to go just a LITTLE lower. It sits like a stock 2wd and looks damn good too. Nice rims on the golf cart too :head:

Yeah, I wanted 22's to make it look a little lower, but didnt want to sacrifice the ride with a smaller series tire.
