the track dyno section is a bit boring in the winter, so im going to stir things up. feel free to bash the run. BTW this test was on a tar+chip backroad so wheelspin is horrible(as you can see 0-60 is almost 9 seconds where its normally 7 seconds). still hit 80 in 16 sec. finally got my high rpm problems taken care of with a new ign module and cap+rotor. trying to get the tune closer now because the ignition problem drove me in circles for a couple months.

Most people dont rev out the old small blocks that high. I figured I would see 5000, but yours flew pass that it looked like.LOL Revs really quick too.
Edit: I see you stated its set at 5600.

not bad for having a wore out shortblock. i want more cam+compression. it would really talk to me then. now that i have the 06 to drive it may just get it too

Huh?
Good show whitelightnin92. I'm not sitting in the drivers seat and can feel the wheel spin, but I think you may be shifting a little on the high side. It sounds like it's running out of air.
.....but it rolls pretty good.

If your going to quote, quote the whole thing. I stated most dont rev that high, and you see where I edited it when he posted what it was shifting at. I thought it was higher than that.

I took my old 350 past 6K ALL the time... The rev-limit was set at 6,400 in it.
Those old TBI tachs are not accurate at all.

The van will be back running soon....Fresh 4L65E into it. Should be back running better than ever. I put a 3.73 gear with a fresh G80 into it and a nice 2,800 rpm stall.

I pulled about 10* of timing through the midrange at heavy load and expect to drop off 70 ft/lbs at the crankshaft. Its a comprimise, not having a 4L80E nor the time to swap it. Its up and running, VERY well. Its basically a FLAT torque curve running up to about 375 ft/lbs @ 2,000 rpm all the way to red-line at 6,000.

if its a 383 with tpi then i expect it has atleast 375 ft/lbs at 2k. i cant really see it turning 6k very willingly tho. but i have no experience with them

Well since its a 10.5:1 383 TPI with Vortecs that were ported on a CNC with 2.05/1.60 valves (260 @ .500 intake, 195 @ .500 exhaust), 214/226 @ .050, .528/.540" lift, 110* LSA, Siamesed Edelbrock 3817 base, siamesed SLP runners and siamesed plenum. Turning 6K will NOT be a problem for it.
A BONE STOCK L98 made 345 ft/lbs @ 3,200 and 350 ft/lbs in a stickshift Vette....

yeah that isnt alot of timing. is that due to the compression being high or is it to save the transmission?

A little bit of both. I am trying to hold the mid-range torque down to 375 ft/lbs because of the transmission. I will probably be driving it daily soon and its just too hard on tires the way it was too. I run E85 in it so its not limited by the compression ratio.

how are you getting away with E85?
Fast305

I allowed the ECM more control over the fuel curve through long term fuel trims. E85 still likes around a .85 equivalence ratio and almost identical timing to a Gasoline engine. I installed a newer GM AC Delco fuel pump, ethanol resistant hoses, and late model flex fuel 33# injectors. After running the van for a few weeks and about 500 miles, I changed the fuel filter. Its been running it for about 2 years now.

Hey White, I know you commented quite a bit on my post (1993 Silvy) the largest thing I have found to help with times is simple. Weight reduction. You can't see it in any of my pictures or past posts but most of my frame has been cut out or shaved. The Inside is gutted then put back to 'stock', the whole truck/frame has been bead blasted, then painted. But really what you have there isn't a bad at all. If you look at other OBS Chevy's that is great. Good posts and videos! :cheer:
