So I got 36" TSL's on my truck last week and wanted to see how they worked out on my Z71 so I headed to a buddies place by the Missouri river. Played around for a couple hours then hit a hole everyone calls the Lake. I made it 4 times but dug the ruts out so deep when I finally got stuck, my cab was swamped and I had water up to my tailgate handle. So we started tuggin and got no where. Im in my truck while a kid I know hooks up a 3" strap with a clevis to a foot wide barge strap to a huge ass 10 lb D ring (i was unawhere at the time). Next thing I know im covered in glass and ended up with this....

That's the last time I let someone else hook my straps up. It hit my laptop sittin in the back seat and now it's f'd up too.... Plus I had to drive it 32 miles back to my place in the rain/sleet in 28 degree weather. As soon as I got home I jumped in the F-150 (im a Ford person too haha) and went straight to the bar with the ol lady.......decent

Definitely lucky. Seems like every year or so someone gets killed from a flying shackle, tow hook, etc.
Many years ago I stuck my Toyota where we couldn't get another truck anywhere near it, so we linked several tow straps together with shackles. No bueno. One strap broke and sent a shackle through the driver's headlight, the metal behind it, and smashed the sheet metal airbox pretty good. Had it been about 18" higher it would have been the windshield and my face. That was the night I learned how much force one of those can have!

Anytime you're pulling with a chain, cable or strap (whatever) you need to use a "deadman". Simply throw a blanket, jacket or something over the cable about half way between the two vehicles, to absorb the shock if something breaks.

We used a coat as a deadman but it still had way to much force. Its right right accross the Mississippi River, about 4 miles on Highway 367 on the West Alton side of the Missouri River. People said the whole I was in, about 5 feet from where I was stuck was about 6-8 feet deep. When I crawled out my driverside window and jumped in the freezin ass water, it was up to my nipples. My fenders measure right around 50 inches but that **** got deep.

Oh man that sucks. I've never tried it, but I'd think a backpack full of rocks usually works a bit better than a coat or a blanket.
