posting this for a friend with a 1994 chevy 1500 4x4 with a 5.7L tbi
he has a performer intake manifold, and a xe268 grind i think from comp cams and a custom tune along with the ultimate tbi mods i did to it.
long story short he wants a supercharger and is looking for a kit. he wants it to work with his stock internals. he's been throwing around names like wynjammer and whipple and procharger. do any of these company's make good kits that will bolt right in with mild mods? money isnt really a big issue with him. but doesnt wanna spend more than 4 grand for a complete set up.
also how much boost can he run and how much power is attainable on top of wat hes got?
thanks all logan

Well theres guys on here that now a bunch more than me. But on a stock bottom end I'd say you can push 6 psi of boost max. People will say more, but thats keeping it safe.
I have no idea how much power you could attain, 50-60 hp???
With a 4K budget I'd say he could get a used kit and by the time you have the tuning done and all the other small things that dont come with the kit you'll have 4 grand in it.

Well if your motor is not too modded I would try and find a used Whipple kit, they are out there... If not strap on a procharger :). I would upgrade to the D1, the only issue is that if you want more you’re going to have to go to a sequential fuel injection system to feed it. Trust Me.. Been there dont that I started with a Whipple on my motor and ran out of boost at 4lbs with the small pulley, I steped up to a F1 procharger and could not use any of the boost due to not enough fuel LOL. So now I am installing a Accel Proram system with 60LB injectors.......

ok so max boost out of a whipple is about 4psi then? wat abbout a wynjammer? they say 6psi or 8psi? and if i get him to up his fuel pressure a bit and a better pump think he could sustain 8 psi of boost?

Any engine can handle a helluva lot more boost than people think
There are a few things to this:
1) centrifugal supercharger or turbo (boost comes on at upper rpms)
2) cool the intake charge - intercooler/water injection
3) most important - FUEL, afr's 10.5-11.5!!
4) spark retard
5) higher octane - race gas/meth injection
When you get to 75-100% power increases, it's a good idea to stop. This also depends on the condition of the engine and which engine it is (tbi isn't the best for power)

The_Target and chevy4.3 are right on the mark. The whipple will give you more than 4lbs of boost. The_Target has a HIGHLY modified motor and needed a bigger supercharger. Judging by your friend's mods, the whipple would work well...I'm sure delivering 6-8lbs of boost on his setup. I am a big fan of intercooled Procharger. I originally ran a non intercooled paxton (running 8lbs) on a stock motor and toasted my bearings within 3 months. I will never run non-intercooled again.

Lets be fair your bearings and being intercooler or non has nothing to do with each other for the most part, Yes detination is hard on bearings but it will pop a piston before it takes out your bearings :)

Well in my stituation, my bearings were the weakest link in the chain. They let loose before anything else did (stock internals). I was stupid for doing a WOT run in the middle of June here in Phoenix, AZ when it was 108+ degrees outside. NORTHERNCHEVY, with your friends stock internals you can safely run 8lbs....add fuel and pull timing. Just watch for detonation and don't do WOT runs when it's the temperature of the sun outside :)

I have purchased all my blowers off ebay and craigslist. I have had good experiences on both. It just takes time checking daily, but you will eventually find one. Good luck, hope it all works out.
