I am going to tint my windows, and am looking at what % to go at. My back window (rear slider) is tinted from factory, and I want the other 2 windows to match in darkness. What is the factory tint percentage on a 1997 RCSB GMC Sierra? Is there an rpo to look for?

No, there's no RPO that I know of. Whom ever tints it just needs to match as close as possible. Most of the time I know factory tine is near %35 or so.

I matched my front windows to the backs and I think they used like 20%.

I could take it to the local police station and have them read the back window tint couldn't I? So I can "make sure":rules: it is below legal limits?

I put 20% on my fronts to match the rest. I'm pretty sure it isn't legal, but it is pretty close. I've never been pulled over

I have had the closest match with 20%. I have done a few, and 20 seems closest to the factory tint. 15 seemed a little too dark, and 35 way too light.

The 20% tint on tanks rig is way darker than my stock tint! I don't know if you can get a stock tint that dark in Canada unless its for a limo.

it was an overcast day, it doesn't look that dark in direct light. My back side windows are stock tint and I put 20% on the fronts to match

Just remember to watch for the mirror effect on some factory tints. My old 93 ext cab had the factory tint on the back windows and when i replace the slider out of the back I could never get the window to match exactly. The side looked like they had more shine to them than the back. I know my father-in-laws 95 tahoe has the mirrored style factory tint. Just enuff mirror to them to make them hard to see in.

Whoever you use should be able to match it pretty close as they should be the experts on that.

20% is pretty damn close. I went with legal 35% but the tint guy said that he's done many Chevrolet trucks and the 20% is the closest match hes had.

Don't know how you get away with side window tint in Illinois, hahaha, my wife got pulled over by ISP all the time for her's. Finally had to take it off. Must be lucky.

I have factory tint on my back windows, and there's no way it's 20%. I usually run 35% all the way around so I'm legal on the fronts, and the rears are real dark with 35% over the factory tint.

When i had my windows tinted i had my fronts at 35%. my rears were stock. and the front was a little bit lighter than the back. So id say around 20-30% is what stock tint is.

I'm looking to match my back window also and I think 20 is too dark. blacknight, do you have a pic of the stock back window and 35 sides?

yeah i got pulled over too here in IL all the time for a car with front window tint. they must be getting more lax though, as i see several trucks and cars everyday with limo. I'm going 5% over my factory as i want my back windows to be dark. then i'm going to put some spot lights on the back so i can see when back up.

IIRC the stock deep tinted glass is 18%.

RPO code: AJ1: GLASS,DEEP TINT(REAR SIDE WINDOWS AND REAR DOOR WINDOW) DEEP TINTED GLS(AJ1)

20% will be your closest match to the factory tint. The factory tint varies from about 15% - 25%. I have 30% on the front windows of my Suburban and it's not much of a difference.
