Wasn't sure where to put this, figured here was as good of a place as any.
A little back story:
Over summer I was "retired" for a few months, and CUSA was coming up. (Country music/camping/drunk fest in Oshkosh, WI) I already had the camp sight reserved and paid for, friends were still coming so I figured I should still go. As we were figuring out what to bring, no one that was coming had a grill they could bring, and those that did, didn't have the means necessary to bring one. Well I had this old webber sitting out by the scrap pile left over from college. During the move from college to work the legs got broke off. I piled up all the parts by the scrap pile next to my parents barn saying "some day I'll fix the legs." Needless to say I found my self in a position where I needed a grill, but no income meant no $90 webber... and then that little light bulb in my head went off.
I now had more time than money, so why not fix up my old grill. So I went out to the scrap pile, and found 80% of the grill. Basically all the steel parts, someone at the folks house had scrapped the aluminum out at one point. Again I put on my thinking cap, pulled more scrap from the pile, fired up the raido, cracked a beer and pulled out the torches, and built a new grill, from all the junk I collected to create a "rat rod" inspired grill.
All of the parts I pulled from the scrap pile

Yes that is an old go cart frame, it was something dad brought home from work at some point, judging by the welds and material used the previous owner didn't like his kids too much... that thing was far from safe.

Front axle of the go cart freed up, tie rods welded to the axle and the Bolens handles tacked up

Used the shoes off the old snow thrower as the rest/slides

Final Mock up grill portion attached and what not. Shortly before this photo I realized I didn't have an ash pan. Then I remembered the old air cleaner from my first car (85 s-10 blazer) grabbed that baby and found it fit nicely under the grill, and closely to legs. So I welded some flat steel to the legs, found a long bolt and wing nut, welded those to the legs in such a way that through the PCV breather on the air cleaner I could bolt it to the legs. Now I had an ash pan that would never blow away in any storm & and easy to handle even when hot ash pan.

Now it was time for paint, a little flat black and gloss red should do the trick here

And durability testing the same weekend. Long story short we were playing hammer-schlogin at 5am still enjoying the night before, and some D-bag came up to us giving away knuckle sandwiches, broke one guys nose and toppled the guy in these pics back into the Hot Rod Grill and Test!e toss game. No damage to the grill, just flipped it back up, set the grills in filled it with charcoal and went on our way. Lets see your wimpy walmart webber do that!
