Just sell your 1/2ton and buy a dmax equipt 3/4-1ton. Financially it's not worth it, structurally the truck can't take it, mechanically it's going to be a pain in the @ss.

The swap is possible, but certainly won't be cheap or direct bolt in. For the cost and effort of it you'd be ahead just to sell yours when you can and buy an 01+ dmax truck to take the place of your current one.

To really do it right, and not have any problems, I'd swap the engine, tranny, t-case, and both the rear axle and front diff, and out of all that, I'm thinking only the rear axle would actually swap over with no problem. Everything else will require some amount of fabrication.
Then I'd beef up the frame.

What would your budget be for all this?

you would be better off with a 6.0 swap way less $ and a lot less work or even a 5.3

you'll have it easier on swapping a DMAX in, they came with the 6.6 from the factory. the OP is talking about swapping a Duramax into his 1500, which would cost MORE to do than just buying a 3/4 ton truck to start out with.
