Carb off getting ready to pull old manifold.
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/fast-95/Mobile%20Uploads/0408101020-00.jpg
Cleaned and reay for the new one, had to shorten the oil sending unit to clear.
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/fast-95/Mobile%20Uploads/0408101348-00.jpg
Lower pully installed, came with fine thread bolts, and of course my damper is coarse thread.
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/fast-95/Mobile%20Uploads/0408101334-00.jpg
Getting closer, note the air cleaner is too tall, and the water neck needed changed. Last pic i took today as well.

Its running, not really noticable whine at idle, tomorow i will finish it up, mount the pillar pods and boost gauge, dial the timing in and may test drive it if its not raining.

what carb you running? cause you can not run the same carb you had for n/a.. you will need a blow through carb...other wise your power valve will be stuck open all the time....

that is one clean engine bay my friend. looks really mean under that hood. all these new trucks hide stuff with plastic, that right there is how an engine should stand out:thumbup:

Its a holley 750, i wont need a blow through carb, carb sits on top of the the blower, there is no pressure being built in the carb like there would be if i had used a Vortech S/C, i do need the carb with the boost refrenced power valve, but i can do that to the one i have. As for the air cleaner, i'm going to have to find a drop base with a good drop to run my current filter.
Here is a link that explains the boost referencing power valve.

that thing is loud when it is wound tight. mine is currently on a 400 sbc. might want to keep an extra belt behind the seat, just incase. the truck will run enough to get you home incase the belt does get chucked, but what is the fun in that?
looks good anyway. dont get crazy swapping the pulley, keep it sane.

you just said to keep a spare belt to get home faster, why not get crazy swapping belts? whats the fun in that :D
carry on. any updates?

I got my carb setup for the manifold/boost reference so the power valve will function properly. Took it for a quick spin, you can tell its there, my converter is a little looser now. Here is a pic i took of the fitting i had to put in for the boost reference.

dont get crazy swapping the pulley for more boost. when the blower throws the belt, it is nice to have another so you dont have to limp home.

you might be able to bump it up a few psi due to you having aluminum heads and such. i would try 8psi.

I would want a compleat rebuild with all forged internals before i would ever consider anything over 9psi lol.

If i go down 1 size on the upper pully it works out to be 7-8 psi using the mathmatical formula in the instruction booklet. It says that with the pulley i have now it should be making 5.56 psi, so its fairly close.
For now i'm just going to run it like it is, i dont want to get carried away with it.

B&M also known as Weiand used to have kits just like this for TBI trucks.....they still may, but not under the B&M name.

I would add a piller pod and add the followowing to it
1. Fuel Pressure guage
2. Boost
3. a wb
need to monitor these things ALWAYS

I have a dual pillar pod with a boost/vac gauge and a narrow band (soon to be replace with a wide band), so that leaves me with a fuel pressure gauge. What W/B do you reccomend?
Can it be possible for it to suck the choke shut? It is an eletric choke and i noticed the hotwire was off when i loaded it on the trailer.
P.S. There is same question in my "Going Racing thread" about the choke plate.

Fuel pump is part of the problem, it died this evening, no more Holley pumps for me this is the 2nd one that i had die. I have a return style regulator so the pump wouldnt get hot, but apparently that wasent enough. I just dont understand why i'm burning up pumps, they are below the tank and everything. I supposed i will try to find a deal on an Aeromotive unit.

Why aren't you just running a Walbro 255lph In-Tank Pump? Do you have a fuel cell?
If I do design a fuel cell for my ProStreet, i'll integrate a Stock GM Sender and 255lph Walbro. Those fuel cell "built in" senders are junk. At least the one in a poly RCI fuel cell I had was.

also i'd look into that pro comp regulator, i think i read somewhere it not being a true bypass style

i dont know if you have answered this question or if i missed it in the pics but:
where is your fuel filter mounted? that could put a strain on the pump.
i dont like holley pumps. i have been through a few myself.
i prefer aeromotive, BG, or walbro pumps

Do you let the tank run below half alot? What was the fuel level when you took it to the track? Maybe you are starving the pump? :dunno:

Filter is right before the pump. I would like to have the aeromotive a1000, but it is expensive. I am beginning to think fuel pumps are one of those thing that fall in the "you get what you pay for category".

I try to keep it at 1/4 tank when racing, any other time it usualy full.

Maybe the G force is sloshing the fuel back and starving the pump creating it to fall flat and burn itself out? :dunno:

Thats a nice setup. I cant wait top get my truck running with the supercharger. It seems alot easier to ditch the injection and go with a carb.

04-25-2010, 03:24 PM
Thanks, i just got it running again today. I put a mechanical fuel pump on it and changed my return setup, now it goes tank-filter-pump-carb-bypass regulator-back to tank. I havent had it out yet, the weather wont clear up. I still need to get the W/B and a fuel pressure gauge to mount inside where i can keep tabs on it. The pump i went with is a Pro Cam made by Baker Engineering Inc. Its a 15 psi/130 gph pump that alot of the local dirt track racers use.

Thanks, the sound isent what you would expect for a truck of this body style. It would fit a mild bracket car better lol. I want to get a nice walk around video before i post any up, glad you like it well enough to use as your back round. The W/B stands for wide band, i have a narrow band air fuel gauge, but need the wide band to keep better tabs on things.

Do the pump instructions say its OK to have a filter on the inlet side of the pump? I would guess that having the filter on the outlet side of the pump would be easier on the pump. An in-tank sock is fine, but an actual inline filter forces the pump to work with a higher negative pressure than it would without the filter on the inlet.
Just a thought?

Not sure, it dident say anything about where to put it. It is a screen type filter, not a canister with a paper element. I dont have the in tank sock since i pulled the stock pump and replaced it with a piece of rubber line. This is the filter i have. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15032/10002/-1?parentProductId=760701
