Flowmaster 10 series

Since the new motor for the Tahoe is going in in t-minus two weeks (dropping it off at the shop next sunday), I thought I'd help her breathe a little better. Here's what I'm thinking:


True Duals, 2.5" piping, two si/so flowmaster 10s, stock cats, exiting straight out the back through 14"x3" slash cut tips. Would it be a good idea to throw in an x or h pipe?

Anybody have experience with these mufflers? What case size should I get?

This video has convinced me to go with the 10 series.

put in a X pipe after your cross member. will smooth out the exhaust tone, and it will get rid of the fishing boat sound..

I think an H-pipe would be much smarter in his application!
X-pipes work great on higher rpm set ups.
We have found that an H-pipe is much better for torque than an x pipe..
And much easier to install...

Go with an h-pipe they are supposed to produce more torque which is good for an suv. I wouldn't spend the dough on a flowmaster 10 series, I would go on eBay and find a one chamber knockoff. They are like 35 bucks. A friend of mine had headers to 3" true duals to gutted cars to the flowmaster knockoffs and out before the rear tire and it sounded just a little louder than stock but when you hit the gas it came to life. It was an 89 2500 with a 355

lol just get the extreme its literally the exact same thing. i think its V shaped in the muffler in the extreme and the flowmaster may be a little less slanted like l/ or something

Okay good, I want my Tahoe to sound practically identical to the one in the video. Motor should be in next wednesday, I'll order mufflers, tips, and an H pipe in a couple weeks.

Exhaust is becoming a little more of a reality now, I'm selling my old car so I should have some money to play with. 2.5" pipe, true dual, SI SO cherry bomb extremes, H pipe, exiting on either side of the trailer hitch.But I've got a question about duals. I noticed that stock, there is no y pipe on the truck, so if I cut off the stock muffler, would I have true duals?

yes, if u cut off the stock muffler and put two mufflers, it will then be true duals, that will work fine, but i would recommend some type of crossover to balance out the true duals....u dont need it, but if i was going to do true duals, i would put an H pipe

If I was you I would get tips that are 1 inch bigger then your tailpipe. And if I remember right the Cherry Bomb Extremes have an l/ inside and the Flowmaster has a V. The Cherry Bomb Extreme is really a knock off of the Flowmaster. I like the Extremes but if you don't like it loud then its not the muffler for you.

Keep in mind, the Extreme is a bad imitation of the One Chamber. They had to change their design (with no engineering) to avoid patent infringement. Also, Super 10s (the newest, stainless One Chambers) are generally $5 more (check Summit, etc.) than the Extremes, sound hugely better, actually help performance, and come with a 10-year warranty.
If running 'true' duals, definitely put an H pipe in. An X pipe could be used, as well, but will have a higher-pitched sound, with less rumble. Also, running one (3" in, dual 2.5" out) muffler will likely be louder.

Looking at Summit, the Super 10 is only $5 more then the Cherry Bomb Extreme. Something tells me Flowmaster released these mufflers at such a low price just to get people to stop buying the Extremes. Althought the stainless steel is a nice selling point, you shouldn't notice any real difference between them in performance. But don't get the Super 10 confused with their Delta Force 10 race muffler.

And what's the difference between the two? I always buy stainless mufflers unless I know i'll want to change it in a year or two anyways, does the Delta Force come in stainless and which flows better?

I couldn't find a cutaway of the Super 10, but it looks like the Extreme but the wing plate looks more like a V instead of a l/.

The reason Imco made the "7" (rather than "V") shaped deflector inside the Extreme was to avoid patent infringement.

Super 10s are very similar to the Delta Force mufflers, except the Delta Force 10s have a collector design inside that's designed specifically for drag racing. They're also only available in 16 gauge aluminized steel.

The Super 10 was introduced because many people over the years have demanded One Chamber mufflers for the street. They're stainless because pretty much all new Flowmaster products are stainless.

I think I'm going to try and convince my dad to use the Super 10s instead of the 40s for his 460. I think them being cheaper, stainless, and louder will convince him. Maybe, if he keeps it, his Seville could use a pair.
