Painting dash

So since my dash is cracking I am thinking about going to a junk yard and pulling a good one. My question is if there is a way to paint a dash without completely smoothing it down. I want to make my whole interior black but I don't want a completely smooth dash.
So is there a way to paint it and leave it rough without it going to crap on me?

Yes. Use SEM dye. There are several threads on here about it. I've used it just like you're saying and it worked great. I went from burgundy to a satin black interior.

Yeah use the SEM dye but follow the directions well. If you have to fix an area SEM makes a great texture spray.
