What do ya think about this?

The bullet is only there because i think it would be cool, i will set it up without the bullet and see if i have room for it. If i do have the room for it, i will probably do it just like the picture. Let me know what you think would be best, the 5x8x14 magnaflow or the 4x9x18 magnaflow. I want loud, but i would like it to be kind of mellow inside the truck.

P.S. The dark lines going across the pipe behind the collectors and behind the Y pipe is 3 bolt flanges.

so your turning the cutout sideways so the when closed it runs through the magnaflow and open it runs through the bullet? neat setup

Low97tahoE

yep, thats my plan

JohnnyRingo
06-03-2010, 09:14 PM
problem. with the way you have the exhaust plumbed the flow will still dominantly go in the magnaflows direction

Low97tahoE
06-03-2010, 09:17 PM
even with the cutout open?

JohnnyRingo
06-03-2010, 09:19 PM
yeah look at it. that would be going against its flow. if there was a way to close the other side then id be good.

the cutout is actually more of a Y shape, im not a good drawer using Paint and a finger pad on a laptop....my truck is too low to point the cutout down, either way it has to go to the side

JohnnyRingo
06-03-2010, 09:23 PM
you need to flip how you have it. the bullet where the magnaflow line is and the mag where the bullet is

Low97tahoE
06-03-2010, 09:25 PM
? im sort of confused by what u mean

JohnnyRingo

face the y where it closes the main path of flow, that way the exhaust has to head in the other direction, then when you open it, it will flow straight

It looks fine like that. The cutout will greatly reduce the backpressure, yes some will still go thru the magnaflow, but not enough to make a difference. Should be a nice sounding setup.

thats a pretty good idea, but i was trying to avoid riding around with the cutout closed and having the magnaflow right under my asss....

yeh my goal is to have the clean moderate to loud sound of the magnaflow, and then have smooth sounding open headers (which is what the bullet is for)

JohnnyRingo

you think so? a couple of setups we ran like that wanted to split the exhaust flow bad. if this man says it its true. listen to him over me, i was just going off past experience.

Low97tahoE
06-03-2010, 09:34 PM
well i would imagine that most of the flow would take the short path out of the cutout, but i am not concerned with some flow still going through the magnaflow, i just want it to be damnn loud and clean sounding when i open up the cutout at a red light or something

When I open my cutout, a similar setup to this only my muffler is dual exhaust and I have no bullet on my cutout, a very small amount of exhaust goes thru my slp loudmouths. If his cutout is far enough ahead of the muffler, most of the exhaust will want to flow out of the cutout, minimal exhaust will want to take the long route.

JohnnyRingo

 slp moudmouths or straight. probably doesnt sound much different either way

Low97tahoE

yeh, thats what im hoping for, i just want to be much louder when i open the cutout, but due to the shortness of wheelbase, my setup is gonna contain no pipe other than the dual 2.5" going into the Y....it is gonna be magnaflow Y butted against the cutout butted against the muffler (which, with a turndown to the side, should come out right before the tire), i cant be positive till i get the parts, but there will be very little pipe if any, because i need to put a 3 bolt flange after the Y pipe, or after the cutout, or maybe 2 of them before the Y....i have to figure out which way i can get the most distance between the cutout and muffler

Alot more than you would think.LOL. Thru the loudmouths it is not nearly as loud. Out the cutout its vibrating the truck, crazy loud and very deep. The loudmouths are higher pitched and more tone.

Get 2 cutouts. Wire em to where when one opens the other closes.
http://www.badlanzhpe.com/
The vids dont work, but thats the one I had. Heres a vid. Open is factory manifolds, factory cats, then cut out, closed goes to a Flowmaster 40 Series turned down at the axle.

You can see the cut out a little better in this one.

You got me dude.LOL. I am no expert on cams.

The only problem I see with closing off the pipe it would be like hitting a wall, then having to turn around and go back the other way and then out the open cutout. The more effecient way would be the one cutout and let the stray exhaust gases just travel thru the magnaflow. They will probably slow down so much that they wont make much sound out the tailpipe, combine that with the deepness of the open cutout and that should be all you hear.

Yeah mine barely flowed out the flowmaster with em closed, you could put your hand to it and barely feel it, I wish the vids worked on that site. Theres a Cutlass with 2 different exhaust setup with cut outs to close off one when the other is opened. It works quite well. Itll just create a little air bubble until the cutout is reopend.

thats what im planning on doing, since cuouts arent cheap and all..........which magnaflow do u think i should get to have only moderate interior noise with the longtubes and no cats, 5x8x14 or 4x9x18?......and another question, will the closed cutout create interior resonance from bouncing off the plate?or will it slow down the exhaust gases when closed?

Outlawz2004

with longtubes you probably want the bigger one.I didnt notice any noise with the cutout closed. I can tell you an electric cutout doesnt sound as good as an open cutout where you have to crawl under and take the cover off, I guess because of the blade in the middle on the electric one.

hmm, thats weird.....well im not about to crawl under my truck with 5/7 drop to open the cutout....so im gonna go electric, its only $100 anyway for a raceland electric cutout

they make a cutout thats a pull to open, push to close kind. Got a tire with a handle, kinda like a hood release. My electric ones started leaking (which you can here in one of the vids). Once the motor gets a little worn it wont seat completely, and it will cause a small leak. My buddy had the push/pull kind and worked flawlessly, and it was cheap as fvck.

Low97tahoE
06-04-2010, 02:44 PM
but dont u have to mount the push/pull button outside the truck?....and i have only seen those in 1-3/4"

TheBigBlackHD

Naw, my buddy ran his up through a grommet in the floor and into his center console. And I dont know what size his was. Whatever stock 01 Dakota 4.7L exhaust is

Theres several holes already in the floor. Thats how i got the wire for my electric cutouts in the cab, through a grommet.

i cant find the ones like ur talkin about in 3", and two 2.5" ones in the Y pipe would be too expensive so im gonna have to get an electric cutout, i dont mind replacing a weak motor, as long as it doesnt become a regular thing, and i dont see how the raceland ones would leak because they open and close really fast....check it out

http://sap082.channeladvisor.com/c-34-cut-out-blow-by.aspx ......i emailed them and they said the cutouts will not be available again until July, which is about the time i should be getting headers, but they were listed for $100
