Last weekend I came up on a steal of a deal on some Intro Champion wheels, but they need a good re-polishing. Should I get them professionally done or should I use some elbow grease? What products should I use? Oh and once they are fully polished can I get them powdercoated clear to protect the finish. Would it stick?

Nice score. Just clean them up yourself. They don't look all that bad. Some Mother's and a PowerBall will work wonders.

There is shop by my house that charges $35 per wheel but I need to check some of their wheels for quality. I just figure if you could still see some of the micro fine scratches i could polish them with Mother's Billet Polish useing a latex golve. But can Powdercoating stick to a polish surface?

I've never used that powerball thing, but if it were me with those wheels, I think that would be exactly what I would try. 35 bucks a wheel to polish is a bit much IMO when you know that won't last forever because of the fact that unsealed aluminum will gradually oxidize and become dull looking again.

Well I decided to go ahead and do the polishing my self. I got some Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and the Billet Polish. I also got the Mothers Power Ball and Cone. I did a small portion on one the wheels by hand to see what I could expect. It looks good. Cant wait to do them this weekend.

Hey you might try this instead of powdercoating. I used it on my rims and only had to rinse them off after driving in heavy rain. keep them looking great till i sold them.

I think you can get it from summit or jegs

Powdercoating a polished wheel would be like painting an oil slick....it will not stick. Even if it does, the grease and wax you find in the polishes you use will boil out and it will leave lots of fisheyes and dimples all over the surface. Besides, clear powdercoat isn't all that great. I'd rather see a nice clearcoat of a quality paint instead.
The polish you use will work wonders and it won't be all that hard to do if there aren't alot of scratches already.
Just my $0.02
Great looking wheels by the way.

I took the time this holiday weekend to hand polish the wheels and they came out great. It really goes to show the quality of Intro wheels.

Wouldn't clear coating the wheels help keep them from going dull (after polished of course)?
Clearcoating them wil slightly discolor them (yellowish) and won't last forever. There is a new powdercoat clear that a place out in Cali has. I'm waiting to see long term results with that though.

You did a good job with those rims they look really good on the truck too, and for cheap? You cant beat that with a stick, i have 2 trucks with billet wheels and its just something you have to do, every 3-4 give them a touch up polish but every time you walk out to your truck that the first thing you look at. Nice job. Fellow So. Cal.

I may hate asking you this but how much did they cost you?
One of the best made wheels on the market.

Is that stock height or do you have it lowered already? That's a score. I got a tahoe too, keep them rolling.

Yeah they were a great deal. Nice Tahoe Riocool..... my I bough it already dropped a bit. I know it has some 2in DJM drop spindles cause I replace them over a year ago. In the rear it has like a 4in drop. But don't really know how they got it down. It might have lowering leaf springs but not sure. I have a DJM C-Notch and Addco rear sway bar waiting in the garage until I get some 2in lowering front springs and some hangers for the rear. I'm thinking of using some QA1 12way Adjustable shocks but at $130 each it'll be an expensive upgrade. I just want my truck to handle good. lol

Thanks for the compliment. Those are stock bad boys. They work great but I agree they are alittle big. I used to have some Super Sport Mirrors on my other truck and they were good smaller than stock but still usable once you got used to them. I have an old picture dont know if you can make them out very good. I'm now at the point were function rates higher than looks so I'm just leaving the stocks alone. Regarding your suspension I have some 2" bell tech springs that I took off of the tahoe, I bought it back in January and it had a 2-4 drop but only springs up front so I just got done redoing the whole suspension new ball joints, bushings, drop spindles and 1" springs with all new shocks KYB's, I bought some bell tech street perf. shocks in March and installed but they were too stiff for me, so I got those to if your interested they were on the truck maybe 2 months. Remember you still got to drive that thing unless its your weekend truck, I'm happy with the ride but still not as smooth as my truck that is also lowered, but I guess that's the way it is. :mexsmoke:

Yeah they do look cool.... but like you said practicality sometimes is better than looks. That's another thing I want to do.... replace all the bushings and ball joints. But yeah I'm definitely interested in the springs and possibility the shocks.
