Your really gonna have to beef up that front end to hold that motor. When i pulled the motor from the spare truck, ended up setting it in the bed of a 97 s10 and it was sagging bad.

ya i know. they weigh 700lbs and the trans is another 200 300 im sure. im not sure if you ever did the swap before or seen in it an s10 complete. i havent so im lookin for any help or ideas anyone can think of. also, its a 94 w the black box injection driver... deleting that would make the swap a little easier but what would the performance be like w mechanical injection?

There was a member of Diesel Place that put a 6.5 into an S10. Last I knew he was swapping it out for a Duramax. You can easily swap the injection pump for a mechanical one. Provided you get the correct mechanical pump, you can possibly make a good bit more power than what the electronic one can make.

so switchin out the electronic bs for mechanical would be a wise move for both power and to make the swap a little easier? the less wires and computer bs the better. im tryin to make a bitchin street/strip truck out of it. nothin crazy fast just different. is the 4l80e thats behind it now a good choice or should i switch to somethin else? id like to keep the overdrive..

Look on youtube, there are few s-10 running diesels on there. Specifically a lifted s-10 with a 6.5. He's on s10forum.com but don't remember his screen name.

Do you have to worry about passing smog in your area?

I would do it anyways just because of the ease of installation. You have to find the right pumps though to get the performance benefit. The 4L80E is an excellent choice behind a 6.2/6.5 but will require electronic control unless you go with a full manual valve body. And on that note, if you want to be fast at all, just forget the 6.5. You could put a 4B3.9 Cummins in it and it could be faster, get better economy, more reliable, and longer lasting.

i dont have to worry about smog. i already have the 6.5 and 4l80e so i was jus gonna stick with that for now even though i have considered the 4bt. im tryin to get thru college but have the parts to make my s10 a diesel. and ya i wud go full manual valve body in the trans and elminate the computer bs. anything to make the installation easier. computers have failed me many times so im lookin for a more old school everything manual and computerless!

Full manual valve body would be miserable in that setup. The standalone that came on the pre-electronic injection 6.5s is a solid unit and no matter how fast you flip the shifter, that computer will make the shifts crisper and spot on everytime. As for the injection pump issue I have a mechanical db2 injection pump sitting in the shop that would convert your electronic pump out. You still have to run a TPS for the tranny, but thats only like 4 wires and is not a problem at all for install.
