This isnt my truck but my camaro. I figured I would post it in this section anyway since it should apply to our trucks also.
There was some velcro that was super glued to the dash. The dash is a hard plastic and the glue has been there for over 10 years. Its right in the middle of the dash and looks like crap. How would I go about removing this?

Try this:

Basically just by rubbing acetone onto the adhesive.

Wont acetone damage the plastic? I read that it can make the plastic turn white or melt it.
I resized the picture but photobucket is being slow.

Hmm well try the old school soap water trick:
You Will Need:
Water
Soap
Plastic wrap
Tape
Rubbing alcohol
Cotton balls
Paper towels
Soft cloths
Bowl or bucket
Steps to Remove the Glue:
Begin by mixing water and soap in a bowl or bucket.
Moisten a soft cloth or paper towels with the water and soap.
Lay the wet cloth over the glue and allow it to set for several hours. The idea is to keep the glue very moist for a good amount of time. If it is drying up before the glue has a chance to soften, place the wet cloth on the glue and cover with a sheet of plastic wrap. Tape around the edges to seal it.
After at least 3-4 hours of soaking, remove the plastic covering and wet, soapy cloth.
Blot at the softened glue with a clean cloth to remove the glue that has softened.
Repeat until all of the glue is removed.
This method can take a while to work, but it will remove the glue without damaging the plastic surface.
A second method is to use rubbing alcohol.
Moisten a cotton ball and gently blot at the glue that you want to remove.
When the glue softens, use a clean cloth to blot it away.
When all of the glue is removed, wipe the area clean with a cloth moistened with clean water.
Dry completely.

I saw that online but didn't try it, so I went ahead and did it just a second ago. I added a touch of interior cleaner for cars to it. I guess I will leave it for a couple hours and see what happens.

Yea, it seems to makes to me. If that does not work i would just go to home depot or lowes and check around for some adhesion remover, but if all else would fail i guess acetone would have to come into effect. :dunno:
Im surprised nobody else has had input on this topic yet. It seems that this could be a common problem.

Yea, I though I would get several replies with different methods within a couple hours.
Well, I just went and checked on the glue and nothing has changed. I stuck the paper towel back on and I guess I will just check it tomorrow. I used foil thinking it would help keep the towel pressed on the glue better and duct tape to seal it well so, if this is going to work then that should do it.

Yea man. I hope somebody else will help come up with something else. I guess in the mean time. I would say keep on doing what you are doing. Like you said earlier, the glue is very old. So maybe she just needs to soak in more then usual. Other then that idk, but keep me posted man. Im anxious to see how it will turn out and what ends up working.

I checked it around 10 this morning and there was no change. The towel was getting dry so a soaked it in soapy water and gain and stuck it on there. I just checked it again and it doesnt seem to be working. When I removed the foil the paper towel was still stuck on the dash so, its not like the towel isn't touching the glue.
I have some industrial cleaner called GOSH that they use at the nuclear plant my dad works at. I put some on a hidden spot of the dash to see if it damages the plastic. If it doesnt I will give that a try.
Edit:
The GOSH stuff didnt do anything. I ended up scrubbing it with rubbing alcohol for an hour. I got some of it off and it does look better. The rest (90% of it) seems to be completely bonded with the plastic and isn't going to come off. I guess I will just have to live with it.

Thats a bummer man. Even a product a nuclear plant uses didnt get it off! Crazy. That is some crazy super glue... Well at least you got the majority off with the alcohol. Yep you just might have to deal with it. :thud:

I haven't tried that yet but I dont think it will help. Looking at the glue left it looks like its melted into the plastic. I hope nobody got that happy in your car. If they did it should be easier to clean up at least.

Try using a plastic razor blade and carefully scrape or pry it off. Either that or try acetone/nail polish remover on a qtip and carefully dab it. With the acetone/nail polish remover I would try a hidden spot on the dash first. Make sure you clean it off good after too.

Acetone will damage the plastic for sure. I think got all I am going to be able to off, if I removed the rest I'm pretty sure there would be an imprint in the dash. I used a plastic razor blade to get what I could off.
I dont want a dashmat because there are few camaro dashes that arent cracked. Also the glue is on the part facing you not the top where a dashmat covers.
