I had the best sound with headers, direct to it the Trush muflers, kind off cherryboms and the before your rearaxle go both sides out.

Had it on two cars before and now on my K5 Blazer

Something like this should work, most of magnaflows products are reversible

Magnaflow spliced into the stock pipes sounds awesome, I have an 18" in my stock pipes on the Suburban and it sounds awesome, has nice quiet rumble cruising and a mean growl when I get on it. It has some drone but it's not too loud and makes the sound more noticable with the windows up, I love it. I have about $150 in the exhaust, icluding the cost of the muffler which was $100.

My favorite exhaust set up is not a store bought exhaust. I like custom exhaust. I usually run 2.5 inch true duals, with no cats, 18inch glass packs, and 3.5 inch slash cut tips. It seems like no matter what truck you put this setup on, it has a nice calm deep rumble while cruising....and its VERY loud when you put your foot in it. Perfect:thumbup:

i think the best i have researched on is 3" into an X pipe and then into Magnaflow mufflers dumped unfer the bed and KEEP the cats.
