I cant stand poping exhaust. I likebit loud but not cracking & poping. What exhaust would be good for a 350 tbi with a cam? I dont want mellow. I prefer deep as possible & loud to an extent.

The crack and pop is the sound created when unburnt exhaust gases are ignited outside of the combustion chamber. The manifolds or headers get hot enough to ignite the unburned fuel that tends to build up during deceleration and this manifests itself as a pop or crack and if your exhaust was short enough, you would see the fire ball exiting the exhaust that go with this. A good visual of this happening on a regular basis would be NASCAR. When those care are off the throttle as they head into a corner, their short and non-muffled exhaust setups tend to create a constant flame thrower out the right side of the car. It's from all the unburned fuel getting ignited in their scorching hot headers. Your truck is the same way, just not nearly as dramatic.

Any free-flowing exhaust setup can create the cracks and pops you don't like. Straight-through muffler designs tend to make the cracking and poping more noticeable. Lack of cat-converters also magnifies the decel sounds too. Fortunately todays fuel injected vehicles are programmed to trim fuel on decel to help with MPG's and this helps prevent the decel noises. My setup is straight-through but it only pops a little bit if I let the rpms climb and decel for a long time. Under normal driving habits, mine never pops. If I had a manual trans that didn't alter the fuel delivery during decel, it would definitely pop like crazy. Lots of variables to this, but the origin of the decel noises is gas getting ignited in the exhaust system instead of in the engine combustion chambers.

I have never had a vehicle equipped with one, but crossover pipes (X or H) are claimed to subdue exhaust popping and crackling.

What about when their just traveling down the road and all you hear is a steady blah blah blah and so on. Very distinct. Kinda seems their in 5th gear, dont get me wrong, i like a good loud rumble but not the steady pop pop pop stuff. I am wanting to get either flowmaster super 44 or 10. Do these sound good?

For sound quality, check out youtube. type in the muffler type and engine/vehicle into the search bar and you should be able to get a few examples of each. It's a great way to figure out what sound you're gonna get from each muffler.

^^^ That's always great advice. Gotta love youtube for that.

oneshot2stop, that blah blah blah you are talking about, if that is happening under cruise or moderate acceleration from a loud V8 truck, it's usually a straight-pipe system or darn close to it. Straight-pipe is when they use no mufflers at all or they have glasspacks that lost their ability to deaded sound and might as well just be regular exhaust pipe. It's a tough sound to describe but I think I know what you are talking about. Personally I hate that sound and think it's obnoxious. I had a friend with an OBS and a crate 350 cammed that had headers, no cats, and some sort of Flowmaster dual exhaust setup and when he hit the gas more than 1/4 throttle or the rpms climbed above 2k, it sounded very crackly and terrible.

I'm not quoting the beginning of your post because I couldn't even understand what you were saying. Slowmasters are junk. Waste of $. If you're willing to compromise power output for sound, go ahead. Even dynomax round case mufflers are better than them.

Why are you so dead-set on going with Flows? Are you like so many others who think it's the end all be all for mufflers or have bought into the name because you heard a vintage muscle car with some 40's under it and think your truck will sound the same? For the price, sound, durability, and performance, Spintech is far superior to the Flows. If you are going to spend that much money on an aluminized steel muffler, there are several stainless steel versions from other manufacturers that will hold up so much better and produce better flow numbers. Not saying you shouldn't buy Flows, just trying to help you see that you should shop with an open mind and diligently research it a bit before you make a final decision.

How do you figure you're not? Do you know something I don't?

Putting a wedge shaped wingplate in a muffler and another chamber does not make power. It makes sound. Real mufflers are through style, and actually flow. Maybe they should call them no-masters.

You are misunderstanding me. I really want details. From looking on youtube, im liking magnaflow but dont know. I was really wanting to know why it would take power away too.

Just start reading threads in the exhaust section. Inform yourself.

You're calling me an ass, and this is the best advice you can give? Well, I have to hand it to you, your post contains one of the longest "sentences" I've ever seen. Above all else, you have that going for you...and wait I forgot...you love "performance".

You mean like this:

And get a 14" Magnaflow, toned and deep and loud when you step on it but quiet when cruising so you don't get sick of it.

I must be getting old or something because that sounds like sh1t IMO. Sounded fine when you started it up and were backing out the drive. The rest is the kind of obnoxious crap that makes me want to set on the porch with a rifle and wait for the offending vehicle to come by again.

That truck didn't even sound healthy. Waaay too raw. Did you see the mudflaps?

OP, Turn your **** up and listen to THIS!!! (single muffler... called a violator, made by pypes exhaust... also says he has full headers. we don't know if he has cat/s on there or not)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ3bpJuWVho

That sounds healthy, and DOES NOT compromise exhaust flow.

The truck I posted is not mine, in case anyone was wondering, just found it on youtube one day searching for loud Chevy trucks and there it was, in it's straight piped glory. Kid I went to school with has the same exhaust, just stock piping with pipes in place of the cat and muffler, and used a y-pipe and 2.25" tails and 3" tips. That's what a stock TBI 350 sounds like, no cat or muffler with duals out the back. I think it sounds terrible, I get lots of compliments from my exhaust, guys want to know how I got such a smooth deep rumble and I tell them, short Magnaflow and echo chamber tips, they work wonders.

if your lookin for a nice deep sound then flowmaster 40s with no cats and turndowns are always my favorite they will drone you to death in the cab but it sounds amazing and if you get tired of the drone just turn up the radio.
