I have a 1997 RCSB with the 5.7 Vortec and A/T... my exhaust now is stock manifolds and y pipe, no cats, and dual flowmaster knock offs... I want to put headers and increase power in a lot of ways, maybe top end of motor as well.. Looking for headers and I know that full lengths > shorties, but which full lengths will fit best? and since I already have a code from not having cats, and I dont need to pass emissions, what should I do about EGR? Do I really need headers that have a EGR fitting or just not worry about it? If I get headers without the fittings, how do I close off the EGR hose or what? sorry for this but I havent found a clear answer on this EGR subject yet.

I'm also looking for an answer in the egr end of things, i have my EGR tuned out and my O2 sensors, you should look into a tune from blackbear performance, much easier than you think and it will give you the power you are after. but I too am wondering if closing off the hose will work, or will it fvck shvt up?

go on ebay and type in egr block off....theres a guy selling the EGR valve block off plate that goes on the front of the intake in place of the EGR Valve....the guys ebay name is Billet sumthin, cant remember exactly what it was....but the auction will have a title like 5.7 sumthin sumthin S10....and for the EGR hose, just buy a 10AN fuel line fitting from www.summitracing.com for $2.95 and plug the hole in the intake with that...then just take the EGR hose off and throw it away, burn it, shred it, whichever makes u happier

When I had my stock intake, removed the EGR hose from the intake I just left the EGR motor in place and unplugged it. I didnt even put a block off plate on it. I ran it for years like that. Then PCM tuning to eliminate the SES lights and to eliminate EGR function.
