I just bought a 95 extended cab half ton 2 wheel drive with a 6.5 turbo diesel and an automatic tranny, my coolant temp guage wasnt working so i changed the sensor out and it still doesnt work, does anyone know what else i could check, id kinda like to know what my engine temp is running lol. And also, would anyone happen to know the valve lash for this engine is, i can hear them clatter a little when i first crank it, i think they need to be adjusted, its only got 104,000 miles on it.

theres two sensors.. ones for the pcm the others for the gauge.
My gauge wasnt working on my 6.5 either, I changed both out and it works again.

Guage sending unit is the one in the drivers side cylinder head, PCM uses the one in the T-stat housing. Valve lash is not adjusteable on the 6.5's as it is hydraulic lifters with a solid rocker shaft that holds the rockers in place. The 6.5's do have a problem though with the nylon buttons that hold the rockers in place on the shafts. When they break the rockers can move to the side and make all kinds of noises as well as bend pushrods.
