And here's a 2 din ...They usually require a modified Dash

All GM trucks since 1995 have come stock with 1.5 Din Stereos.

i wonder if Alpine still makes one, maybe i should google it. i love Alpine and have a single din in right now, just like the look of a stereo that fills the whole din.

You're stuck with the lower end brands like Jensen and Boss if you want a 1.5 DIN, they quit making the Pioneers awhile ago. Alpine and Kenwood have some marine units that have a bigger face but fit in a single DIN opening. May or may not look or fit right though. :dunno:

Would probably fit right with the OBS single-DIN adapter.
The OBS with the non-theft-resistant clips centers the HU in the opening, and it looks like those units have the body centered in the face.
The NBS 1.5 to single-DIN adapters are available with a small pocket under the HU. These move the HU to the top of the opening and would not work.

Crossy's - You mentioned all GM trucks since 1995 have come with 1.5 Din Stereos, does that include to current year?
I actually like the way factory head units look inside the truck. I have been looking at replacing my 1998 Chevy K2500 factory head unit (http://replacementradios.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_28_78&products_id=114) with one from the 2007-2011 trucks (http://replacementradios.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_28_78&products_id=1525)...

Do these radio operate off of some crazy DIN network or anything that would not allow it to function properly? Or do they simply use a 12V source (grounded) and simply hook into the factor harness that leads to door speakers. I do not care about the steering wheel functions...All this is assuming the 2007-2011 factory GM head units are 1.5din

The factory HU may be 1.5, but I put a 2-DIN Pioneer AVIC-D into my '06 without dash mods.

There are electrical issues though. The new model HUs are tied in with the BCM to interface with the Onstar system, as well as the steering wheel control modules, and the headlight/ignition key/seatbelt alarms. PAC adapters are available to interface those, but they are not 100%, IE, when the key is shut off and the door opened, the Onstar/chimes no longer work since main power to the HU is shut off.

Here is the original HU from my '06 K2500HD

http://personal.linkline.com/rlockyer/06hu1.jpg

In looking at it again, Crossey'sSon is absolutely incorrect. The newer factory HUs are indeed 2-DIN.

Hmm...I dont think the factory HU in my '98 k2500 is that big. DO you have any idea? Is that your '95 'burban in your signature? I think they have the same dash setup as my '98 maybe you could use its HU to compare...

I no longer have the HU from the '06... I sold it to a fella' in New York to help pay for the Pioneer nav system with XM.
But no, the '98 is not that big. That absolutely is a double-DIN HU (that particular unit has the internal 6-disc CD changer).

But I can tell you that the double-DIN GM HUs are completely incompatible with the earlier systems.
I wasn't clear what you were asking at first when you were talking about the connections until I re-read.

Yes, the new HUs do communicate with the truck's computer... to the point that the guy that bought my HU would have to either take it to the dealer, or to a friend with a Tech-2 and CANdi interface to program the units to be compatible... it's even worse than theftlock.

I just went with the adapter and a Sony xPlod with Bluetooth.
Works like a champ, front and rear Aux inputs, models are available with an Ipod interface.

Single DIN. Got it from Sonicelectronics. It included the adapter and actually looks decent in the dash.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23324_Sony-MEX-BT2800.html

Damn! I paid full price... $53 instant savings now! That's a killer deal at $106, and since it's over $100, it should still include the installation accessories.
You'll also need an antenna adapter... it doesn't come with that.

Oh ya... and on the Suburban, you need to connect the factory harness's pink wire to the aftermarket's "remote amp turn-on" or your rear door speakers won't work.

Ya, it would be nice to be able to get a decent 1.5 today, but sadly, the Pioneer and Alpine units are discontinued. Only thing available now are the low end units like Boss, Clarion, Jensen, etc.... and there might be a couple of marine units still on the market (guess it would be okay if you're doing a custom dash in pink and white for that special lady).

BTW: This one is for the '07 and up.... definitely 2-DIN:

Of course, a single-DIN with a flip-up screen is always an option.
Pioneer has a nice one with Bluetooth for a little over $500
http://www.crutchfield.com/s_130P5200BT/Pioneer-AVH-P5200BT.html?tp=5684
To get navigation, you do need the AVIC-U220 Nav adapter for another $300, but that's still less than I paid for my AVIC-D2 that I had in my '06.

Kenwood has two good candidates
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/Car-Receivers.html?tp=5684&nvpair=FFStock|[rank1]New&nvpair=ffNavigation|Optional+Navigation&nvpair=FFBrand|Kenwood
The more expensive one has an IPOD adapter, the other one it has to be added, but both also need the Kenwood Nav adapter... and they get $600 for that.

Personally, I'd go with the Pioneer.
