can anyone tell me if there is an adjustment to be made on the steering box to tighten it up? the front end has some newer parts and is pretty tight but there is quite a bit of slack in the wheel, also I have a 79 2wd that has zero slack in the steering, can i take the steering box out of it and swap it to my 4x4?

thx for any info/help

There is an adjustment on the steering box, but I would suggest having someone who has done it before to adjust it, you can destroy the box if you adjust it to tight. And no the 2 and 4 wheel boxes are different.

I think the 2WD box could be used, because they use them for crossover conversions but only because of the way they index the pitman arm. If the arm can be indexed like needed for 4WD on the gearbox's sector shaft then you'll be okay. Or if you know what you're doing you can take the box apart and swap over shafts.

I'd recommend doing that only if you are in a pinch or like doing everything yourself though.

It'll bolt up like you said, but I don't think it will work with stock push-pull, only with crossover.
