Now Im thinking of a cam. I tow a 6200lb(dry) holiday trailer right now in the summer. And a horse trailer with two horses most of the year. It pulls nice, even when the quad and the bike are on the deck and the trailer has water on. But like always more power is needed. I want a cam that will not sacrifice any low end whatsoever. And I dont want to put a stall converter in. Or would I be best to get a different ratio set of rockers and just get some more valve lift.

Also. Would I benifit from a polished throttle body? I know the gains wont be huge but its a cheap mod.

What other mods will help.

4.8 towing cam = Stock cam

People have tried to make cams that boost low-midrange power for 4.8's, but they always fail. I guess you could contact someone like Pat G to custom spec you a "torque" cam, but don't set your expectations too high.

One thing that would definitely help low end power is to increase the compression ratio. Problem with that is that it's a lot of work and not very cost effective. It will net you gains, just not enough to make the work and money justifiable.

Theres no replacement for raw displacement....

Gains from a TB polish would be marginal...

gains from an intake and head port and polish should be rather noticeable.

1.6RR would prolly help a little.

If you wanna keep what you got and gain a little port and polish the intake TB down. Port and polish the heads. And port match the intake to the heads. Throw a volant or k&N intake some 1.6RR on it with exhaust and get a good custom tune from black bare and you should be getting the most you can out of your 4.8

Like I said I have the cold air intake, and I have the custom tune. I think I may try the rockers. The head porting and matching is alot of work. I can do it, and have done it but not to a daily driver.

are there stroker kits for the 4.8? that would get some low end torque

Stop!
Get a JY 6.0 or 5.3 and cam em.......big difference from 4.8 to 5.3 than another big torque jump to the 6.0...what I've read

what gears do you have ? 4.10s-4.30s should helpwith towing and i know you dont want a stall converter but the yank tt2600 stall lets you keep your stock towing capacity and it will multiply the torque a lil better. Do you have oversized tires ?

1.6RR would prolly help a little.

Gen III engines have 1.7 rockers from the factory. If you want more lift, just swap the cam.

I have 4.10s right now. It pulls nicely. I just want to pull nicer, easier.

Swap the cam from what? If Every other cam looses you low end, then wouldnt it be a good idea to just gain a little lift from say 1.8 rr. Plus I heard that the factory rockers deflect a little. Whats do you think.

2600 stall is too much for a basicly stock truck. And I have 275/70R16 tires.

I've never heard anyone say the factory rockers deflect, especially with stock springs. For the price of quality rockers you can pick up a decent little cam and gain triple what the rockers would.

Not really. Go over to performancetrucks.net and check out how many guys tow with higher stall converters.
