I am going to put headers on my 97 z71 350 vortec, i already have them and my question is can I just unplug the egr valve and block the hole without removing it from the computer or will the motor have a miss ? I am planning on a tune to remove it later

It won't have a miss. It will probably throw a code (not sure about this; I had mine programmed out before I put the headers on it), and could ping at cruise since stock PCM tables add additional timing when EGR is commanded. Not a big deal; if it pings, run higher octane till you get it programmed.

PAt is correct, I just wonder if the EGR timing adder tables will even be realized because the PCm wont have the EGR motor "in teh circuit". No matter, you will be fine.
When I did my headers I left the EGR valve/motor in place, unplugged, I didnt even cap it.
As Pat stated, it will throw a code or 2, but you shouldnt have any driveability issues. I rememeber when I did my Fastchip tune which simply disabled TM 100% and leaned out the WOT PE mode a/f ratio(stock timing), the 1st time i launched on slicks'headers/exhaust I had a big smile on my face as the truck launched the best it ever had. It felt like I had a street 383 at launch. I can only imagine what it would feel like downtrack with a proper performance ignition timing advance specs.
