That's because there's a huge article about it, over in the Tech Articles section. The ones that didn't respond probably didn't notice you're a new guy...if you'd been around a while they would have expected you to search on your own. Anyhow here it is, sometimes the search can be tricky.

yes someother guy i did find that article and havce read every page of it but im looking to exchange the whole dash because i changed the color of my interior from the dark blue to grey so the dash looks a little funny so in short i would like to install the whole dash not just the cluster. and that article has a lot of info it but the further you read the futher off topic it gets so it does get confusing will the 92 dash plug straight into the 89 fire wall?

You might be a little confused on how the parts go together. There is almost zero difference between the 88-91 and 92-94 dash shell itself - the only difference being the shape/size of the hole for the harness connector where the dash cluster installs. The wiring doesn't plug in at the firewall so it's not like you're going to take a complete dash from a '92 and just drop it into your '89. That part down at the firewall is simply a bulkhead piece that screws the harness to the firewall; there is no connector there. The harness you see going through on the passenger side goes all the way from the sensors on the engine to the ECM.

If the '92 donor truck has the same engine/trans setup as the '89, you can come very close - swap over the complete dash (which would include the cluster and the DRAC module you need) and the engine wiring harness - and you'll be left making minor modifications to the engine harness like changing the TPS connector since it's different between '89 and '92. Most of the other connections should be the same.

That actually answered my question thank you !! I thought that i would need to change the engine harness to match the dash. I just want to save the hassel of cutting wires and trying to match them up since i need to change the dash and the speedo and drac is all ready set. Im gonna wait till spring to do this because i will be changing the engine anyway it will make the engine harness swap easier only difference between the 2 trucks is my 89 has a 305 and the 92 was a 350 both are overdrive. Not sure when they started using the 4l60e in the obs but i dont think that is what was in there. It looks the same as my 700r4. Again thank you for your help!!
