My sister was about to purchase a new Tahoe and I caught her before she traded in her 04 Duramax 2500, 4 door, 4x4. Picked it up for $13500! Its got 151000 miles on it. My 02 Dodge 2500 had 162000 on it and was only extended cab. Sold it to buy this one. Glad to be back in a Chevrolet!

Ive got to go pick it up this weekend. We had the dealership check it out and service the transmission. I specifically told them to check the injectors and was told they were fine.

What are some things to look for on these trucks? I know the dodges were bad about the injection pumps going out. (been there). And these chevys are known for injector problems. Anything else?

Just for fun you could check and see if it an LB7 or LLY.

Hopefully when they serviced the transmission they didn't flush it. If they did, I'd keep some money set aside for a nice built aftermarket one.

Good steal for you. But a Duramax to Tahoe? What was the reason for the Duramax if the Tahoe can do the job? Nice thing for you is you know it's previous history and you know what problems she has already had.

No flush, just a fluid and filter change. Where do I look to see what engine is in it? The only problem I know she had was it dying and not starting a few different times. They never did find anything wrong. Dad thinks she was relying on the miles to empty computer and running it out of diesel. Its pulled a camper a couple of times a year and hauled a few cows, thats about it.

Vin tag. Run it through compnine.com vin decoder it will tell you all sorts of options that came on the truck. Some people know the vin sequence number and which one stands for the different engine options. I how ever do not

If the 8th digit of your VIN number is a 1, then it is an LB7 Duramax(the early one). If the 8th digit is a 2, then it is an LLY(later 04.5).

My best guess with that problem would be a messed up egr. Go ahead and delete it.

According to my vin it is the later LLY engine. How do I go about deleting the egr?

You can either delete the EGR or just block it off with a plate. Alligator performance carries them for about $11. Both mine and my buddies truck have one.

you got lucky then! lly dont have the injector problem but have a "rare" overheating issue. usually with heavy loads up long grades in high altitudes.

as far as egr delete goes

Anybody with an LLY engine or newer rerouted the pcv system?

FWIW, search duramax diesel forums and start reading. They were a big help for me until I bought my dodge.

This place is full of good info and there's an RV forum out there that is pretty informative too. I'm still rockin the LB7 with 216,000 miles. I just replaced my T-case, but that was due to mileage and pulling. It's a hard working ranch truck. Everything else has held up good.

I had the injectors upgraded under warrantly at 197K but when they did that they cracked the fuel filter housing and it would not start right after that and I had to have the housing replaced. Perhaps there might be a leak in your housing case letting it bleed down and lose prime for a restart ? Just a thought.

Other than that I have a slight throttle body wear and tear issue that will throw me into limp home when I pull hard but I just let off and put my foot back in it again.

Yours is just a baby at 150K.
