Hey,
My next step in my ever lasting truck mod'n process is the alarm. I want to get it done at this local shop, I am comfortable with the owner and believe he will do the job right. He only does Hornets, but I was thinking of getting Hornet's 2 way put in the truck. I want a 2 way alarm most of all. Hornets are DEI, so they can be consider quality as well? And another question, can I still do the remote window with this alarm?

Sr2003,
Here are the links for the Hornet 554T vs. the Viper 790VX:

I just compared the actual install guides for the Hornet 554T vs. the Viper 790VX, and they look identical.
I agree w/ FeeD that the remotes are different. It appears that the Hornet 554T is only a 2-button remote, but includes a timer/temperature option. Not sure how that works. You may want to confirm that with your local dealer.

According to the Hornet 554T write-up:
Time/Temp via Remote, including Parking Meter Timer!
Read the time on your 2-Way just like a cell phone, and remotely sense the temperature in your vehicle. Too hot or too cold? Time for remote start!"
Good Luck!

Just read something interesting on the DEI installer forum about the Hornet vs. the Viper 2-way systems. The comment is in regards to the fact that a regular, non 2-way remotes won't work on the Viper/Python 2-way-Repsonder systems.

I am a tech at DEI and the reason that there is a remote with the Hornet and not the VIper, Python, or Clifford is different technology. The Hornet operates in the AM spectrum where the others operate in the FM. Because of this our existing remotes will code up no problem.

I did some more research myself and found out that the remotes \ antenna's are the only different things on them. I read the brains and harnesses and other things are identical. That remote you posted is a 5 button. It has 3 smaller buttons on the side that are actually only visible from the side. I read that the Hornet transmits \ recieves from like 1000-1200 ft, while the viper will transmit 1000-1200 but recieve up to a mile.

Kinda sounds like the Hornet is a better unit beause you can use the regular remotes.
I currently have the Sidewinder 6500ESP remote start/alarm system in both my truck and my wife's car, and am able to control both cars w/ 1 remote. I was condiering upgrading to the Viper 790VX in my truck, but then I would have to carry a separate remote for my wife's car. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a multi-channel/multi-car remote.
