I doubt cutting the cats out will help you.

If you don't need them, then cut them out.

neither help nor hurt, it'll just sound like crap when you accelerate hard and you'll probably get exhaust pops on deceleration, too.

On an '06 the cat isn't restrictive, you seriously won't get any gains. Just save yourself the trouble and leave it on.

Long tube headers however will increase power. Mine have no cats, I like the smell.

Old people were around before cats, so they probably wont notice. I the younger folks that havent seen a OE installed carb may be bothered, why are my eyes burning?

I'm not bad, I'm done school, starting a new profession.

i took mine off my 04 5.3 and it hurt my acceleration and my mileage went to $#:!

My 02 it's also a 4.8 with 3.42 gears. With over 177K miles both cats were clogged to the point it wasn't able to run properly. My best time with the cats still in the truck was a 13.90 in the 1/8. Without them the I run Low 10s (10.20s)

I DON'T RECOMMEND TO REMOVE THE CATS...but emissions laws here in Baja California are very lax so I removed them. Later this day I may take a HD video of a small drive around the block so everybody can hear how my truck sounds.

There must be something wrong with your truck then, If you took them off your 04 you threw a code unless you got a tune

I took my single cat off my 93 not loud at all it was trashed so i cut it off :)

It's true that the newer stock cats aren't as restrictive as the older cats and it will change the way the truck sounds and smells. Depending on where you live it removing them can also get you in trouble, but IMO only a tune can take advantage of the extra air flow to actually benefit from the mod. If you are planning on getting LT headers with an ORY pipe, just wait. If you aren't getting LT headers with an ORY pipe but you can tune your truck for the mod then remove the cats and tune it. If all you are doing is removing the cats, i wouldn't recommend doing anything.
