Okay, right now this isn't a big deal to me, but it helps for future reference. But, swapping a 5.9L 12V Cummins into an '88 K1500, is it worth it? I don't think the 1500 suspension could handle it, and I do have plans to put 2500 suspension under it, but would it be even worth it to drop the Cummins in, or just get a Dodge with a Cummins?

Not only will the suspension need help, the frame will need help too, and the rear end and trans.

Figured as much. I've seen a lot of Cummins swaps into 88-98 bodies, but they were completely reinforced to hold the motor.

Your truck's suspension will be fine. The Cummins is heavy, yes...but a fellow by screen name of "Crewcab59" over at another forum has done a few 5.9 swaps into 1500 trucks and Suburbans. They hold up just fine.

I did a 4BT swap into a 93 Suburban and the engine dressed and wet weighed in at 750 lbs! After the swap I stood on the front bumber and the tront end only sagged a half an inch. I weigh an "eigth-of-a-ton".
