soo ive been searching around the net and various forums for a while now, it seems like theres a lot of guys on here that know alot about GM's so i figured i would poke around here.
i have a '98 K3500 Silverado with the 7.4L (454 BBC). i have been diggin around trying to find out what it would take to put a manual 5 or 6 speed into my rig.
does anyone know what tranny to look for in-particular? and any other bits of wisdom regarding a auto to manual swap would be greatly appreciated.
-thanks!

Well you can get a NV4500 5spd from a K3500 4X4 or K2500 4x4 8 lug truck and it should be a bolt in- get the clutch pedal and mount and trans crossmembers also. 95-98 would probably be best for you but they are used from 92 and up. You will need to have the pcm chip reprogrammed for removing the auto , or you can swap the prom chip in from a manual trans 95 454 k3500. May be a few wires to swap around also but not too much.

so the nv4500 will essentially "drop in" and line up with the t-case, or would i have to move some stuff around?

didnt bigblocks have a tbi in 95? and a vortec in 98? if so the prom chip idea dont work and you might have to get a custom tune or a programer for the 98 pcm. other wise a nv4500, with the clutch pedal assembly, slave cylinder, and crossmember from the older trucks should work fine.

im pretty sure.. mine is a vortec tho. im going to make a call to pull-apart tomorrow and see if any of the pickups they have listed are manual, if so i could get everything i need for a couple hundred bux with some elbow grease.
is it easier to re-program my chip or just find one from a wrecker? im going to go ahead and assume that the chip would need to be from a 454 as well?
