hey i recently picked up a craftsman 33 gal air compressor to run some basic tools in my garage like an 1/2" impact, etc.. well in the little manual that comes with it it says to drain it after every use. The compressor doesnt charge super fast like 8 min to get to 150 psi so its kind of a pain to start it up and let it charge up before i used it for something. So im wondering does everyone else just keep theirs pressurized does it really matter, i know half the crap in these manuals is just so their covered and dont get sued if something breaks, but im just curious if it will damage anything if i just leave it with air in it.

I drain the water out of my tank after every use, but I leave the tank pressurized with air. I can't see wasting all that electricity everytime I need to use it.

I might sound like a complete tard but how do you do that?

I usually drain mine after every use. I use it at a place I rent and do not pay electricity so what the heck. I leave the valve open at the bottom of the tank and close her up and fill it when I show up to work on something the next time. :dunno:

Just crack the PETC*CK and let the water shoot out  then um close it so the air stays in there :jerry:

I have never felt water come out of mine. Maybe a little moisture. I definitely do not use it often though.

What about a separator??

If I don't drain mine daily it will have a gallon of water in it in the summer time due to all the humidity. Sometimes I will forget to drain it or it will get left on overnight and the next day it is spraying water out of the impact wrench.

the separator will keep the water from going out the hose, but it'll still be in the tank

Ahhh.

I guess I never have water due to me draining it every use. It gets VERY humid here.

Automatic drains are fairly cheap.. only need to drain the water, not the air

My tank must be half water, I can't tell you the last time i drained it. whenever I would, no water or foam would come out.....so I stopped

yea its so freakin dry here in the desert i dont ever have to worry about humidity so im betting there isnt that much moisture in there. I can weld stuff together not paint it and it still takes forever for it to rust

I added some fittings and put a ball valve on it so I could drain it pretty easy. The drain on the vertical tanks is a PITA to get to.

I need to do that. In order to get mine to drain completely I have to remove the whole valve.

Just be careful if you move your compressor around a lot. This limits the amount you can tilt it back. I never move mine so it is not an issue.

I do not move mine either but I might try to have it a little shorter.

Do you know what size the fitting is that goes into the tank?

Automatic drains are $14ish. they blow off when there is a change in tank preassure

speaking of draining, i finally moved my compressor from one side of my shop to the other after about a year or so. it sounded like i was moving a barrel of fish in there. idk how much came out but i know i check it WAY more often now.

I just got into air tools and my wife bought me a 12 gal 1 hp craftsman is that even going to be able to run the majority of the tools out there?

Not at all my friend, maybe small nail guns and MAYBE an air ratchet, but not an impact.
