#1 the 3116/3126 HEUI were Factory fit an GMC topkick trucks so that should help + the alt-tach out is the same as a 6.5 diesel
#2 as a mechanic for these engines EX the 3126 HEUI is WAY more complex then a cummins "B" with all the HEUI injection stuff + FULL authority FUEL control
the HEUI is the same as used on FORD POWERSTROKE / Navistar dt 444 E /
#3 finding one with something other than a ISO #2 bell housing (LARGE ROUND bell Housing used on commercial truck applications) unless you want to run a H/D tranny like an allison / Eaton 6 speed

i was once told their to big and heavy for a pick up. like 1800lbs. And physically to tall. Youd need a body lift, some seriously heavy front springs, if its am ifs truck youd might make your life easier by puttin in a soild axle. Then you can sift thru the electronics, but luckly the computer is on the engine, then the trans issue. So probably more work than its worth. detroit 4-53s are popular swaps aside from cummins 6bt and 4bt. this is assuming its goin into a pick up. You didnt really say what you wanna swap it into

My dad has a cat in his 02 kodiak 6500 and i love the sound of it, although it needs a little more gear in it to haul our 5th wheel race hauler its a great engine and id love to see someone put one in their truck, i like cats better than the dmaxs they threw in the kodiaks. Cat stopped making engines for all big trucks here recently and are now making their own line of trucks exclusively with their engines. I hope they make a 1 ton truck, now that i would buy. But like the guy said earlier you may be looking at an sas and def alot of fabrication just to hold it up, youd basically have to rebuild suspension, get new trans: would it fit?, and alot of other things.

The new Cat truck isn't a Cat, it doesn't even have a Cat engine. It's an International Paystar slightly redesigned and rebadged...with their rotten Maxxforce engine. Good luck, Cat Truck...

I haven't read up on their progress lately until now and they are based off of the paystar but they offer the 12.4 maxxforce and a 15 liter engine with a CAT block and CAT internals. And all automatic models have CAT transmissions, if you want a manual you get an eaton. Good enough for me.

the maxxforce 15 is cat BELOW the "deck" MAN above with Bosch/MAN injection / tuning
my shop got some pro star PLUS with the "small" maxxforce and it is anpABORTIONto work on / ONE of them is going back to the dealer because it is bleeding out every hole it can even the A/C compressur leaks out its rear seal .... the other one has bean spot on
and for cat power the older 3116 found in 1990's "old look" topkicks ETC are 6.6L and mechanical control similar in idea to an old Detroit NOT licked by mechanics / prone to block cracking and bad performance
the 3126 is ELECTRONIC HEUI injection 7.2L engine. GM kodiacs / W series cab-over-engine ran them along with ford/sterling trucks + others including Thomas school busses
IMHO 3126 is WAY better
ONE issue Ex in GM run models is bad grounding of the block and the high voltage "trigger" for the injection will cause pitting of the cylinders and there ARE NOT sleeve engines
if the conversion is being done to get a cat truck use the 3126 if the swap is for performace/ reliability use a cummins "b" or "c" the "C" is a replacement for the 3126 and IS a sleeved engine and avail MECHANICAL injection
and is FAR more reliable BUT both of these are very big for a pickup conversion

I'll put it to you this way, you can't sell one of those new Cat trucks to a wrecker driver, because they're too busy making money towing them. :D OK, well, that is - to be fair - towing the ones that are still wearing Paystar badging. :D

I think it would be over the top for a daily driver in a light duty truck frame but anything is possible. I'd like to see pics of it when its done if you go through with it. IMO if I did all that work I wouldn't be stuffing an automatic behind it. The govt. refit the old M35A2's with 3116 CAT's and stuffed an Allison behind them in place of the Continental LD and LDT 465 Multi-fuels and Spicer 3052 and 3053's. but they never really took off. They retrofit a handful and then scrapped the program. They pop up for DRMO a lot If you were gonna do it and keep it 4x4 you are probably better off getting one of those and making it a bobbed deuce and throwing your cab and bed on it. I'd just get rid of the CTIS before it leaves you with random flat tires. Either that or at least you'd have everything you needed for your conversion into your stock frame.
