Harbor Freight :read: Watched a video review and read on it some and its basically a Victor (maybe harris, cant remember) clone. Heard sometimes you can catch it on sale for $100. Comes with regulators, torch, tips, and hose.

Got mine at my local welding supply shop. Bought the torch, regulators, hoses, tanks, tips, all together at the same place.

Definitely not as cheap as HF, but I dont trust their stuff all that much.

yeah, not much can go wrong with a hammer or an air freshener..... or electrical tape. My dad bought one of the really big US General toolboxes, and I will say that it appears to be really well built. I have really tried, but EVERYTHING I get from there breaks. The last thing I bought there was a pack of 3 speed links. 2 in the package were bent so bad that they would not thread together. I now attempt to save myself the headache by shopping elsewhere.

I got my Smith torch off of Craigslist. Only paid $50 for it.

may be an ass, but i have morals, and married women are a no no. have been for years.

i'm proably gonna stop in a couple of the local pawn shops and see what they've got. i hear that they're pretty common to find there.

I see them in Pawn shops all the time. I have actually picked up several in loads of scrap. One of them even worked.

I would stay away from China Freight. If you think a good torch setup is expensive, price out a couple skin grafts.

How much for the whole setup if you don't mind me asking? I'm shopping around for a good set of torches as well. Getting tired of always having to borrow them

so Harris is a decent name in torches? Lincoln sells a kit i can buy locally that is plainly just a Harris torch with a Lincoln logo on the package that i can pick up new for about $150.

Right now you may want to look into a propane setup for torches. The only plant in the US that makes calcium carbide ( a main ingredient in acetylene) blew up. I have one tank left then I am changing over to propane.

NO experience with propylene. How well does it work?

Much safer than Acetylene, its stable at all pressures. From the few times Ive used it, it seemed to make much cleaner cuts. I know some of it has to do with steadying the hands but it made a difference. You have to use a different tip but I prefer it over Acetylene. Not sure how much $ it runs

As far as propane goes....all i have ever heard of is the small bottle of propane you can buy at menards or any other hardware store. But that doesnt work well for cutting. Any more info or brands that do good for propane cutting torches?

I got my torch setup off Ebay for $40. It consists of an Airco MAPP welding torch, and an oxygen regulator and Mapp regulator ( takes small MAPP bottles, or can use propane ). It works great, and will cut thinner stuff but I want to upgrade the torch to a Harris and convert to propane ( have the hookups as is ).. Harbor Freight has some good stuff and some bad. There $50 Victor knockoff is the same setup as a few outfits sell and it's not bad, but, used Harris, Victor or National, even Airco can be got used for the same price or cheaper on Ebay.. Propane only requires new tips and a diffrent regulator. Propane cutting tips are vaned...

As for the spammer above ( rodeo coloring books ). Possibly Rango but your a spammer anyway

KIJIJI never hurts
+ try local Auction houses Ex if a plant/ vender goes CH11 (google industrial Auctions to find the listing for Local Auction Houses they usually have "calendars" on there web sites showing when / where and what thay are auctioning
my shop bought a kit like this
http://www.harborfreight.com/portable-torch-kit-with-oxygen-and-acetylene-tanks-65818.html
and it is a "rip off VICTOR" and works good for a small portable rig
