87-99 fullsize chevys, the 87-95 is TBI which is a very crude injection system. the 96-99 are a whole lot more refined.
Ever thought about buying a ramjet 350 crate motor?

Ya, if it's going to be for a project truck, I'd go with an older 350 and use an aftermarket intake and EFI system.
Using the GM TBI or Vortec injection system is going to be a mess of using the GM ECM and incorporating (or programming out) the emissions systems, ABS, etc....
The newer you go on GM (or any vehicle), the more integrated the computer is with functions of the vehicle beyond simply controlling fuel and spark.

prob to go with an older 350 and use a newer aftermarket intake and efi, prob alot easier to work with and reprogram. what brands do i need to look into?

after you mention aftermarket efi, i know you have a decent budget, so just buy a ramjet 350 and call it a day. that way you will have a NEW engine and a NEW efi system.

you can, but it will be a flat tappet, low compression motor that obviously isn't new.

i will prob do cheaper way for the crawler or if i go with the hotrod truck i will prob just drop the bank roll on a ramjet.
either way which tranny would hold better to the torque from crawling, burnouts, and some dragstrip 4l60e or the 700r4?

Same trans.
They're both a Turbo-350 with a 4th gear and lockup TC.
One's electronic and the other is mechanical/kickdown cable.
