RPO codes for 4.56 gears would be G82, GS6, or HC4.

M1008's had a D60 and 14FF with 4.56's and a rear Detroit locker. M1028's had the same, except some kind of LSD or locker up front too.
Ive never seen a regular truck with lower than 4.10's personally. I would think that something with 4.56's would have had to be special ordered, and it would be so uncommon that youd never find it in a junkyard, especially for 1/2 ton axles.

Yea, good luck finding any cheap 4.56 axles. Keep an eye on craigslist though, as you never know what might pop up.

Also look on ebay/forums/craigslist for used/cheap gear sets. I built a few rears when I was a teenager with no experience and they are still holding up pretty good.

I parted two 1 tons years ago that were non-military, one single, one dually, both were 4.56s.

I don't think 4.56s were offered in a half ton, maybe late 70s or in the 60s...
