I have a 1971 Datsun 240Z waiting for an engine. I bought the car without engine so I was thinking about various engine swap options mainly 'cause I don't like the original L6:

1.- Newer Nissan L6 engine the one that came in the Skyline with DOHC, EFI and Turbo (These are the RB engines, from 2.0,2.5 and the all mighty 2.6)
2.- In line 4 cylinder: Nissan KA24DE its a 2.4L 4 cylinder = A Z car deserves a better engine
3.- Chevrolet V8: Carbureted 350 or even a LT1:10:

So now that I own a Silverado I'm thinking about a 6.0 but Why? I believe its cheaper and easier to find than a LS1. Of course the LS1 its better suited as a passenger car engine but i cant afford it :(

So this is my question: The manual transmission from the trucks is physically bigger than the T56? Cheaper at least? Is any way of replacing the extra long shifter? Any thoughts about the car is welcome :) (The NV3500 its the one i need?)

I think it would be sweet to use a 6.0...

I think id throw and intake and cam in and switch it over to carb unless its a dd.

Thats cause i just dont like wiring **** though. FI would be nice

Switching to carb isn't always the greatest idea. Especially going LSx or LTx. It would be a shame to throw in a stock LQ9 without outfitting it with a cam and supporting mods. Also, you could probably pick up heads like 317s pretty cheap (I think that's what a lot of guys run on them to bump compression).

A worked 5.3 would also be a fun motor to throw in there.

a spunky basic 350 will throw that little car around like nothing..keep it simple and fun...thinkin anything after that would be a waste and have issues with traction

Local 454 Powered 280Z :)

Well, I was reading on a Z car forum and many people tell that is somewhat painful to put any truck engine in the Z. Why? For this specific engine swap It's necessary replace the oil pan, the intake manifold and all the front accessories including the water pump...all of these parts need to be from the "passenger cars" = F body cars

So if Im going thru this, I "must" put a 6.0...a 4.8 or 5.3 need all the same parts (oil pan, water pump ...etc) :(

I have always wanted a Z with a hefty v8.
