They are as good as any with the right modifications. Out of the box they will hold thier own.

My memory isn't what it used to be, but I don't think Chevy put 454's in 1/2 ton 4x4's in 1977. Check the # on the drivers door plate.

1st letter = Manufacturer C=Chevy T=GMC
2nd letter = Chassis type C= 2WD K=4WD
3rd letter = Engine L= 350 R= 400 U= 305

If it does have a 454, it's most likely been added. Not that it's a bad thing, I put a 454 in my '77 years ago and couldn't be happier.

If you care to post the numbers from the door plate and the windshield/dash Vin#, I should be able to give you more information on what your truck left the factory with.

77's are damn fine offroaders... right up until the point you blow up the 12 bolt rear haha... then a 10 bolt... then a couple of np203's... but the original 350's in them hold together pretty impressive, i've been to hell and back with my 77 and its done me right, i think my problems were due to my foot more than the truck itself

if its got a 454 in it, i wouldn't bet on anything in the drivetrain being stock. and if its still 1/2 ton (6 lug) i wouldn't bet on any of it surviving behind a rat if you actually intend to wheel it.

My stock SM465 and NP205 will take anything a 454 can put into it.

My 77 has the 400 in it and that truck goes and goes, its my daily driver and weekend warrior. Its taken plenty of abuse down here in the swamps and it keeps on going , not to mention pulling out the big trucks that bury themselves in the swamps
