broken tailshaft housing

i have a 4l60e and broke my tailshaft housing the lost the fluid my question is whats is some insighton my problem i did not drive the truck when it happened. could i put a new tailshaft housing on and fluid in and drive it? so insight would be great

its probably gonna have to removed and disassembled to see whats broke.

thats what i think to but i was hopeing for a easier way .

If you installed a new housing, you can drive it, but you may end up busting the new one.

I had this happen a coupel times, the last time sheared off the output shaft as well. Ended up being a work ring gear/bearings.
