View Full Version : Valve Covers?

Ran into clearance issues with my old valve covers. Running 1.6 Comp roller rockers and old centerbolt valve covers obviously dont fit. My heads have the old school outside pattern and the centerbolt pattern so I have options. Problem comes in on left head using the stock A-C / Pwr Str bracket. Anybody ran into this? Whats worked for you? Side note had a set of old valve covers off a 69 Corvette and they almost fit just a tad too short.

this is my fear! I am running 1.5 roller rockers but they are much thicker than stock! So does your bracket hit the stock valve covers? What is the issue?

Just by your description, I'm guessing that you have a vortec. You need the narrow body, self aligning rockers to clear the stock valve covers. I have heard of guys cutting the baffles out of the covers to make them fit though.

Should be ok with 1.5 rockers they are typically thinner and not as tall as a 1.6 ratio and as Skylar mentioned come in a narrow body. Im using Edelbrock Etec 200 heads and they came with guides so I went with the non self aligning which was probably mistake #1. Im having two interference issues. Let me start by saying Ive never had "stock" valve covers on this truck since I got it. It came with some stamped proform covers that worked well to this point and appear to be stock size. Im having two interference issues first the centerbolt stems going between the rockers (shouldnt be an issue on 1.5 ratio). Second with a older perimeter valve cover (of the 69 Vette) if I space it up to where it clears the rockers it interferes with the stock a/c bracket. My thoughts are two fold Edelbrock makes a midsize perimeter valve cover thats 1 1/2" higher than stock and should easily clear rockers and second there is a lot of "fat" that I can trim of the a/c bracket if I need to... Have options just looking for anyone who has already ran into this.

Aren't the vortec heads centerbolt only?

yes but the aftermarket Edelbrocks have both bolt patterns center and outside

I had to trim one of the ears off the A/C bracket and space the compressor up a 1/2" or so to clear the Proforms. Not the best pic but it should give you an idea of what you might have to do.

Kinda off topic but have you mounted the fuel rails and fittings up on your intake to check the clearances for the distributor and plug wires? Edelbrock couldn't tell me if it would all clear and still have the ability to move the distributor to set the cam retard.

Thanks ordered some cheap valve covers and we'll see if they fit... If not time to fabricate... I havent got to the fuel rail yet but cant see it being an issue the cap (the potruding spark plugs) are about 1/2" inside the back of the intake and the rail runs outside the top of the intake. Ill take a pic tomorrow... I get quite a bit of rotation out of distributor still. I think Ill buy the fuel rail this week and let you know... Hope this helps...

Ok used a midsized Valve Cover (Edelbrock Signature outside bolt pattern) and had a clearance issue with the A/C Bracket. So time to trim. I cut half the back left bolt stand off and a little out out the back "u" and fits perfect. Thermostat housing is next issue but think a slim rotating housing will work perfect coming out the front instead of the left.

Love it!!!!! I want that intake setup!!! Do the factory Iac and tps wiring connectors plug right up to your TB or did you have to modify.

Very nice, sir. What kind of cam are you running? That intake oughta make some brutal midrange torque.
How much will you have into the intake setup when its all said and done,if you don't mind me asking?

I have about $1000 in it could have saved some bucks if I didn't go with AN lines but they look so much better. I have a comp cam 8-305-8 220 230 at .050 lift

What heads are you running now? They look to be aluminum in the pics.

the castings are a little rough but if you run a die grinder through them with 80gt rolls they turn out good. as far as running them i dont know becouse i need to make an app. with the tuner.
