Hey guys, I just bought an 04 2500hd, what is the best exhaust to put on it? I want something that is pretty loud and deep. I plan on putting an edge juice w/attitude on it as well. Thanks for your help!

mbrp and diamond eye are about the best out there. i had fitment issues with my 5" mbrp and had to have it modified at an exhaust shop. I would look at EFI Live for tuning options- that is the best "tuner" out there. If you want a handheld then PPE would be the way to go

I have 4" Diamond Eye from the turbo back. Also an EGR Blocker plate wouldn't hurt once the egr is turned off with a tuner.
X2 on Efi-Live over a box programmer. I'd recommend Nick and Bob here at Duramax Tuner.

I ran that on my '06 LLY
Not the loudest, but plenty loud with great tone.
The muffler is positively huge and it flows extremely well.
Most guys around here are just running the particulate trap with straight pipes.
Too effing loud for me.

Don't get the juice, its junk. I'd advise a PPE for handheld (keep it on 90HP or you'll kill your tranny) or a Hypertech. I wouldn't get EFI Live unless a built tranny is in your future, and also EFI Live is only as good as the person who tunes it. A canned (hand held) tuner is fine on a stock truck.

if the tuner knows what he is doing ie nick at duramax tuner or others the transmission will be fine. they write tunes that are safe for a stock trans and will up just fine if not better compared to a handheld tuner. Not to mention EFI is about the same price as a handheld if not cheaper.

He'll be fine on a stock trans as long as he uses his head. I've put 30k on my truck with Efi-Live and a stock trans with just a transgo jr. My dd tune is +85hp and my performance tune is +180 or 185hp and as long as I'm easy on it in the higher gears it holds fine.
A can tuner is good but if he plans to do more with the truck in the future it's kinda a waste imo. Why buy a PPE to run for a while then do more mods and then pay for Efi-Live and get better results instead of starting with Efi-Live and having it altered as the mods progress.

I said go with EFI is he plans on a built trans. And yes going with tunes from Nick or Idaho Rob is a good way to go.

I don't do any towing or hauling of any kind. I wanna keep the stock tranny for sure..I just want my truck to have balls and I want people to hear me coming. I wanna be able to blow smoke. What do you recommended given what I just said? Thanks!

I'm curious how you ended up with a dmax if you do no towing or hauling.
What's your definition of your truck having "balls"? Are we talking 70hp over stock or what? My truck doesn't have that much power compared to the other diesels pickups I'm around but to you it might have crazy power. It's all relative to each person.
Smoke- Get an edge or something like that. Your not going to get much smoke with Efi-Live from Nick, his tunes burn clean even once you get into the high hp stuff unless it's something along the lines of a dedicated pull truck.
Noise- 4" straight pipe will do you just fine.

Why do you want to blow smoke?
All it does is waste fuel and attract unwanted attention that results in things like California's new RETROACTIVE smog testing for Diesels that goes back to 1998 and newer.
If your state has smog testing and inspection, just wait, it's coming.
Blowing smoke is nothing more than overfueling. Diesels aren't like gas engines... run a gas engine lean and it burns up. Running a Diesel engine lean is how you throttle down.
Running a Diesel engine rich throttles up... until you run out of air... then you blow smoke.
ANY tuner can blow smoke.
A good tuner will give you a 100hp boost with no significant smoke.

if you blow smoke any more than a little puff upon application of WOT your truck isn't running right. Smoke mean wasted fuel, hight EGT's and you look like a tool. If you wanna roal coal on everyone go buy a 12 valve cummins and crank the pump up.

Found a thread that might give you some idea's of how to get the most out of your truck since it's not used for work and you want it to be loud and smoke alot.

I'm not sure what's worse.
That, or Cen-Cal.

I lost hope as soon as I saw "roll smoke" for the 3rd time in 2 weeks (different threads).
