I have what is titled as a 1983 GMC truck, but it did not come with an RPO sheet. I would love to see what options my truck came with originally, but without an RPO sheet there's no way of doing it. I decoded the VIN already, but I'm looking for options like the trim level and such. Does anyone here have the power to look up RPO codes by the VIN number? I asked the nearest GMC dealership and they said their software only goes so far back, not nearly far enough to help me with my truck. If anyone has this power, let me know and I'll PM the VIN to you. Thanks!

Compnine.com has a vin lookup, unsure if it shows back to 83. On late 70's to 80's GM cars, a build sheet copy would be found in the passenger door, behind interior cover, front upper dash, passenger side near the speaker, and / or under the rear seat. Usually, two copies of the build sheets.

Everything in this truck has been swapped multiple times, almost nothing is factory. That's what kind of sparked my interest about this, I'd like to see what the beast originally started as. I tried that website and it can't find anything for my VIN. Someone on a different website (who I assume had previous ties with GM) tried looking up my VIN, and he says that a message comes up saying it has an invalid "Check Digit." This is kind of funny to me, because on my title it doesn't read "1983 GMC K2500," but it instead reads something along the lines of "1983 GMC Pickup." I'm kind of curious to see what's going on here. The truck is actually 140 miles from me while I'm away at school, but my brother texted me the VIN written on the back of the inspection sticker. I wonder if somewhere down the line a mechanic misread the VIN on the plate and wrote the wrong one on the sticker, and every one since has been copying it from the previous sticker. But then, I imagine it wouldn't register in the system that my truck is inspected. I'll see if the VIN plate on the top of the dash is visible and I'll have my brother confirm if the one on the back of the sticker is correct or not. I'll keep you posted.
