I think the R and V designation really only apply to the 88-91 square body trucks. They had been C and K, but in 88 the GMT-400's were introduced which took over the traditional designations.

R/v is 87 year trucks only I thought?
Either way an R30 is a 2wd 1 ton truck. That's all...

Squarebody 1 ton, yes (1973-1987 generation.)

as was stated, the R/V designation lasted out the rest of the generation, after the introduction of the GMT400 in late 1987.
C and R = 2wd trucks
K and V + 4wd trucks

I've got to disagree....... They were C/K's (C30, K30) until the GMT-400's were introduced for the 88 model year. The square body trucks were made though the 91 model year, similar to the way the GMT-400's were handled at the GMT-800 transition.

So then except for exactly what year the change took place 87/88 you agree with me, then.
I don't understand why it would have changed in 87, as the GMT-400's started in the 88 model year, but whatever. No GMT-400's to my knowledge ever came labeled as an 87. They were probably available in 87, but they would have been 88's....... the model year doesn't coincide with the calendar year, entirely.
Were the badges changed on the trucks themselves, or did GM simply not label them? I don't think I've ever noticed a V or an R on the side of a truck like my 99 has K3500.

I don't think I've ever noticed a V or an R on the side of a truck like my 99 has K3500.they were NOT C/Ks in 87, they were R/Vs. General motors knew beforehand that they were coming out with the GMT400, and decided that they were going to carry the C/K model desigation. they switched the 87-91 square bodies to R/V to eliminate the confusion of the body styles... try buying parts for a 99 GMT400 1500 4x4... 9 times out of 10, you end up with GMT800 parts... to my knowledge, no square body, aside from the K5 Blazer, ever wore a badge that designated if it was a C/K/R/V... the Blazers are a bit of an odd bird anyways, even the 2wd "K5"s wore a "K5" badge on the front fender, despite actually being a "C5".
if your 99 K3500 has a K, something has been changed... all of my GMT400s have had a 1500/2500/3500 with a Chevy bowtie or a GMC logo in front of it. every GMT800 i have come across has had the same treatment.

Ok, except for me being off by a year, we agree.......... I don't understand what you're arguing about.

Looking on Ebay, it's the 68-72 badges I was thinking of for the C and K.

You're right...... it's a Bowtie. I never looked at is very closely.
