paint stripping

My 93's previous life was that of a farm truck.. the paint is pretty worn... especially on top of the cab and the hood. I am currently trying to strip what is left of the paint off the hood but am having a hell of a time.. I bought a 4" paint stripping wheel for my corded drill.. but it is slow going. Is there a better method for taking my hood down to bare metal? I plan on rattle-canning self-etching primer all over.

I was looking for something I could do in my driveway without removing my hood or years of my life.. ;)

BTW.. the paint stripping wheel just seems like a rough, round, oversized sponge..
