Truckin' Mag's Project Novakane

I'm suprised there isn't already a thread about this truck. It's pretty incredible. I bought the issue of Truckin' a month or two ago where they had their Throwdown, which was an all truck performance competition. Awesome stuff.

Their Project Novakane has big wheels, big brakes, custom coil-over suspension, T56 trans, and a monster LS motor with big power. The exterior looks pretty darn good too...not quite my style, but I still like it. VERY impressive performance. Has anyone else been following the build of this truck???

I know when this Pro Touring section first got started there was a lot of "well what's the definition of a pro-touring truck?" and there never seemed to be any examples of a Full Size Chevy (at least not that I saw, but I didn't read every post of every thread either).

It is ugly and generic....nothing special. Seen nicer trucks built by 16 year old kids in daddy's garage. All they did was throw a wallet full of catalog junk on it. Novakane? That's about right...it is putting me to sleep.

I have been following that build. Suburbian is right about how they simply threw a lot of cash on some nice upgrades to that truck to get it to become what it is. I know it takes some dough to create something like that but it's a bit excessive. If one were to add it all up, I bet a nice new Corvette fits inside the build cost of project Novakane. I guess that's the nature of a magazone build... throw a bunch of sponsored parts into a truck that look cool, are wicked expensive, and are mainly eye candy. The MSD coils and Banks exhaust are good examples of product placement. Still, I have been getting some good ideas from this build and it sure makes me want that LSX engine badly.

Of course they threw a lot of cash at it; of course it's excessive; of course the parts are eye candy as well as high performance parts....that's part of what makes it Pro-Touring. So I don't see how you can criticize the truck on those grounds. Pro-Touring vehicles are not budget builds....they are a combination of a dragster, road racer, auto-x, and over-the-top show car all rolled into one. They require the high dollar performance parts in order to perform and look the way that they do. And this truck certainly performs...sure you could go buy a new Corvette for the price, but then you're just another guy in a Corvette. Check out pro-touring.com and look at the builds and cars on that site...every one of those cars has a catalogue of expensive speed parts thrown at it (or it was built by someone that has access to the tools and machines to build their own custom, one-off parts).

Now if you want to criticize based on it's styling, well that's a different story because everyone has their own taste as to what looks good. I wouldn't say that this truck is necessarily my style, and I would have done things differently as far as the looks go, but it's certainly not cobbled together, and it has a sinister theme to it that looks pretty good.

Typical for a magazine build, tons of cash and the best of the best for parts. Thats what expected.


I Love PT, thats a great site. LS1 tech is another with some very cool LS builds.

They even named what kind of frigging energy drinks they slugged to stay awake. That build would have been impressive if it was done with massaged factory parts, complete custom fabbed parts, and parts off of other GM machines, instead of aftermarket plug and play stuff. That doesn't sell magazine ads though.

I'd hardly call all the aftermarket stuff they have on that truck "plug and play." That rear suspension alone is pretty well fabricated. And there's always a good amount of modification to get that amount of different aftermarket parts to all work together because those companies don't design their parts to necessarily work in harmony with another company's parts. Those issues just don't get shown in the magazine articles.
