Ok. There is an auto wrecker within 1-2 hours of my house. They recently took in a 98 Suburban with a Whipple supercharger setup on a Vortec 454. The truck was hit square in the back. The supercharger was running good after the accident before it was pulled. I can get the complete kit, from intake to headers, all brackets, the add-a-pump, the harnesses, etc. for 700 smackers. If anything is missing, they will pull it off the truck for me.

I have been a Wester's Garage customer for 2 years now and from what I have read from others, he can give me a really good tune for the supercharged vortec 454 so I don't need the Whipple ECM piggyback. I have an email out to him already for recommendations.

I just put the Bosch 19# injectors in my truck a year ago and a new fuel pressure regulator. My truck runs superb right now. Starts up perfect, runs perfect, 0 issues.

My only concern with the Whipple is that I don't have enough injector and I really don't want to open Pandora's Box. I do have WB02 AFR data logging capability, so I can monitor for lean conditions. My truck is well maintained and runs like a top so I think it's a good candidate.

I would love to hear from someone that's added a Whipple to their truck and what their recommendation is.

thats a tough call.. if you're engine is running that well, i'd lean towards leaving it alone. maybe you can put the $$ into something else and keep your 0 issues badge :dunno:

That is not a bad idea at all... On one hand, a perfect 0 issue truck is just that. On another hand, that makes it a good candidate upon which to base a mod like this.

I do like that the charger doesn't run on the main serpentine belt, so if I was towing and had issues with the tune I could just pull the belt.

The only thing holding me back is that I am unsure if the stock fuel system can handle the demand of the blower under full boost and I don't want to start modding to get the thing rich enough and just end up in an endless tuning cycle where I can't get it right.

Bringing this thread back.

I put a Whipple on my truck and haven't looked back. I didn't use any of the electronics that came with it. I ended up using some FAST 36lb injectors on mine and doing the tuning myself. Wester's is top notch with their tuning. I did the 0411 swap before the Supercharger and bought my PCM from them with a good base tune. You shouldn't need a boost-a-pump with the injectors. If your fuel pump has some miles on it I would recommend a new one just for peace of mind. I would check out the idler and tension pulleys on the kit closely. New ones are cheap and will save some time later if you have to replace them. You are going to love the extra power from the Whipple. The cam I am running isn't a good cam for it but I plan on changing that in the near future for something a bit more boost friendly.
