Just wondering what you guys would recommend, looking for a motor for the truck in my sig.. the 350 isnt enough power for me. Would you guys reccommend a GMPP zz383, rebuild the existing 350 into a 383, get a crate 350, etc etc. I would like 400 horse out of it, the more the better. Its a sunday driver so when I drive it I like to go for a nice burn. Anyone had any luck with buying a crate motor? Or bang for my buck should I just build a 383 myself? Especially being up here in Canada im not sure what the best option is as shipping plus conversion foor some of the crates gets expensive. Will be adding tri-ys, vortec firepower ignition, and a tranny upgrade as swell.

400 hp huh.. I think a 383 would do you just fine. What gears do you have? If she's a Sunday driver, depending on how deep you go with the 383 it should make enough torque to roast the tires all day.

The HT383E would be a nice upgrade for a crate engine. Its plug and play. Along with headers and a tune, you would have close to 400 HP.

LS SWAP 6.0
you will have alot better tuning capability with a LS.
and you should be able to get one for a pretty fair price.

Rebuilding your 350 to a 383 would be the most bang for your buck, but after that upgrade options are limited. a 6.0 swap would be expensive and difficult now, but gives you great upgrade potential

It has a 373 rear end, another thing is what can you expect from a 383 for reliability and longevity of the motor lasting? Being its not a daily driver It wouldn't be kept at low rpms...

The same as any 350, dependent upon how it was built. The faster a motor spins, the faster it wears out and needs a rebuild. Doesn't matter how it was built, they all wear out.

I live in Alberta and just finished doing a full rebuild on my engine and trans. Ended up at 405hp and 415 ftlbs. for a fair price. bored over 30 thousands. mild cam. they undercut the valves 30 thousands. with tighter springs with dyno costed. $4200.
