Hey all,
I just got finished with my doug's header install on my 87 GMC v2500 and am contemplating my exhaust options. They did come with a y pipe that will need some modification because of my lift and different driveshaft angle but I am crossed between using the y-pipe and using 1 muffler or just going with true duals with an x-pipe. What do yall suggest? are there any major benefits over either of the options? Wanta see what some other guys did with this situation

i would do true duals with either 2 mufflers or true duals with an x pipe. i would think that you would have alot more flow if you did true duals instead of just one single in single out muffler

I would do dual 2.5" pipes into a y to a single 3" the rest of the way! Depending on what size duals you plan to run you will have a hi flowing exhaust with the 3". You would need to reduce the duals to 2" or 2.25" to get decent low end with it. A single 3"exhaust can handle over 500hp so I don't see it being a restriction! If you need the look of duals you can run 2.5" pipes into a y to a single 3" pipe to a muffler with a single 3" in and dual 2.5" pipes out. Less pipes is less weight and less parts to buy.

That's actually what I have now and the exhaust shop ended up giving me a new tailpipe and all (all 3" with the 2.5" Y) while hooking up my old exhaust and I'm just gonna keep that on. I didn't think there was much to get out of true duals so I'm happy with the way I have it now. Thanks guys!
