Is it better to wash and detail when it's hot(like 90-100) or when it's cold or cool?

Ive always preferred cooler weather (50s-60s). The warmer the temp, the faster you have to move in order to keep the soap from drying onto the paint. You should avoid washing your truck in the sun, as this can cause the soap to dry too quickly and becomes difficult to remove. If no shade is available, you can wash one side of the truck first, rinse, tehn repeat on the other side.

I don't have any shade in my yard, also no garage or anything. I detail cars as a hobby though, and it can get quite hectic when it is too hot. My favorite weather for washing / detailing is about 65 - 70 degrees and overcast. I do love a nice sunny day though for taking reflection shots as well as before / after shots

I would invest in a large pop up tent to keep your client's cars out of the sun when washing and waxing. :D

This sounds good. You dont want the vehicle too hot when you wash and wax it.

If I actually had it as my main job I would, but I only do about 10 - 20 details a year, so I don't worry too much about it. Between working full time and having family time, I don't want to spend all of my spare time detailing as it is something I actually enjoy doing, and if I had to do it all the time I would probably get tired of it.

Some day I will build a pole barn though and I won't have to worry about it!

Yeah the only thing that matters is youre not doing it in the beating sunlight. I see idiots around my neighborhood who dont know any better, washing their $60,000 black Denali's in the broad daylight with a bucket and brush.

You should never wash the car in direct sunlight. The sudden temperature change between hot and cold can ruin the color coating

this is why its helpful to have 2 people while washing, one person runing the brush and the other runing the hose

If anyone got near my paint with a brush I would deck them. Microfiber is the only thing that should ever contact your paint.

I like it when its around 70. It gets over 100F here during the summer so it`s a real PITA to keep my ride clean in the summer.
