My motor is almost ready to put back in my 92 sierria ext cab. Nothing fancy vortec heads, lt1 cam, bolt ons , 454 tb, etc . Will want to spray nitrous off a carb plate. I have an ostrich and moates burner to tune(newbie and still reading) . I'm pretty sure I'm done adding to this truck so I do not want to purchase an ebl system. It sounds great but I feel my motor is fine with a ostrich and tbi PCM . It's a daily driver and will only see track once a month max.

Thats where i have a question. I believe my ecm is a 747 but ill double check. I heard its a good ecm with a certain code to tune. But I also hear in general about other pcms being better from different years. The 427 comes up alot. So guys do you think i should switch to a different PCM/ECM ? a certain code? Can you tell me why? I see so many opinions scattered so It was not clear to me if I should just stay with my ECM.

Okay, I'll dive in here. Upgrading your ECM will make tuning easier. The $0D code is very well documented and has much better fuel and spark tables than the 747 ECM with the $42 code. A 427 or 8625 ECM is easy to plug in (Fast305 posted a pinout chart on thirdgen.org to make the swap) and readily available.

Thanks and I just found this thread that answered me exactly the difference in the 747 ECM and the code plus ECM you mentioned

You'd better look at your ECM/PCM and see what's there first... some 92s had newer PCM, if you have a 4L60E trans you probably have a newer PCM although may not be 16197427 there are many varients. All better and most well documented.
