harbor freight #91616 one of my new favorite tools and these really kick ass if you don't already have a set of step bits buy these why didn't i 5 years ago? $8.99 for 3 bits 28 different hole sizes really surprised how good these cut compared to $20 each ones (blue mol) from home depot trust me the best 9 bucks you'll ever spend

I bought one several years ago and love it. I hardly ever need to get out the rest of my bits...except for thick stuff or pilot holes. I think they make them longer now and they will got through like 3/8 steel now. Mine is real short and jumps to the next size after 1/4" which doesn't work well on the thicker stuff.

Not sure I'd spend my money at HF on cheapie step bits, but I've had good luck with the Irwin brand. You'll pay dearly for 'em though.

Richard that what was so surprising that they worked so well cause most of my hf stuff i just use for junkyard hunting if i lose a couple sockets out of my 40pc $2.99 rachet set there its's no big deal. lol plus i hate letting my 20% off coupons expire and for 7 bucks for 3 bits it was worth a shot

I was a line mechanic for years and always had SnapOn and Craftsman tools in my boxes. Now that I'm retired, I have been buying tools at HF. Some of their stuff is truly useless. However, I have purchased many things from HF that have saved me a bundle and work extremely well. I'd rather have the right tool for the job than a bunch of overpriced tools that don't get me where I need to go and HF seems to have many of the specialty wrenches and sockets that make my jobs easier.

I bought stanley stuff from walmart when I was in highschool and its outlasted all my snapon stuff hands down. Snap-on sure speaks its name these days "snap". If I see something I like or want I just get it rarely look at the brand anymore, break a bit that the whole set was $15 or buy the snapon $200 set and hope they replace it when it breaks.

believe it or not, the HF step bits will chew thru steel and stay sharp a long time and cheap enough to toss and get new ones every so often.

I have to agree, I was really surprised that these things are even lasting. But so far they are holding up pretty good.

yep i bought some thinking i was going to break them but for the price took the risk. Ive used them heavily the last few years on 1/8" steel plate mainly and they have been great. I didnt expect them to work or hold up but im glad i was wrong.

I agree too.
It seems like they have those 3pk sets on sale all the time.I bought 2 sets a yr ago,and have never opened the second set yet.
They will go through 1/4" angle iron with ease.Great bits for the price.

I used one so much the titanium coating wore off between 1/2 and 5/8ths. Threw it away and got another. If I used the bits I have that size, I would have had to sharpen them several times. Time is money. I have found drilling a pilot hold before using them can save time as well.
