I have a 1993 k1500 with a 4.3 tbi and five speed. It has a rod knock and I was planning to replace it with a 5.7 vortec with tbi on top, longtubes and full exhaust. Emissions don't matter where I'm at. Any suggestions or help will be gladly accepted. Also, what price range will I be looking at as I would like to keep it under $1000. thanks

Careful shopping... Used longblock, your accessories and brackets will bolt on. 350/55lb injectors in your tb and put a quarter under the fuel pressure regulator spring, ultimate tbi mods. Cheap aftermarket vortec 8 bolt carb intake manifold and build your own tbi to carb adapter ($10 and time vs. $40+). Hooker 2462 longtubes. Your radiator will be fine. Junkyard efan if you can. Craigslist and ebay are your friends.

Thanks. I've already done the ultimate tbi mods. I've heard about using z28 fans and was wondering if it would be alot of work to put them on my truck. Also I found some flowtech headers on jegs for only $135 and I was wondering if anyone had input on them. they are longtubes with 1.625" primaries with a 3" collector. Any thoughts on mufflers? I was thinking about flowmaster super 10's.

Efans can be done easily. A temp switch, relay and wiring. I don't care for flowtech but that is just my opinion. The headers that you are talking about are a mid length not a long tube, I would step up. I also always look for thick flanges (3/8" or better). I don't like a chambered muffler (flowdisaster), I like a straight through design such as magnaflow. A buddy of mine had the super 10's on his BBC 8-71 blown 496 72 camaro (what a ride!) he ditched the 10's (because of the sound) and tried the magnaflow's. He was crisper on the bottom and stayed the same on top. Once again these are my opinions and opinions are like armpits, everybody has them and they usually stink.

Thanks again skylark. I didn't realize those were mid length headers so i'll go with the hooker longtubes. I'll think on the muffler as I'm still not sure. I should be getting the engine by friday and I plan to have it in and running by sunday.

My budgets going good so far.
Hooker headers: $225
jegs vortec intake: $119
magnaflow dual in/out muffler: $99
Junkyard fans: $25
complete vortec engine: $150
and my exhaust shop said it would only cost $50 for the extra pipe/ install as we're good friends.
so I'm up to about $750 after the extra shipping costs and everything. My order is supposed to be here by saturday and I'm picking up the engine tommorow.
